I've noted before that I've avoided any sort of Family Films like the plague, but now I'm a family man. I only bring it up to remind you I'm operating entirely on a vicarious experience. Inside Out introduced fear into my son's life in the shape of a giant clown, so a G rated nicety is more than welcome. This paints Charlie Brown as a loser, but one with a heart of gold. It never goes full Focker on us by dumping on him too much, and doesn't canonize him either. Plus he's bald.

From what I remember of them, it seems faithful to the style of the comics, mixing in a bit of downtrodden Charlie Brown with a bit of uplifting moments and some Snoopy asides. It doesn't really come together all that well, particularly since the individual scenes often seem tired and the attempts to bring all the themes and tones together come off inconsistently, but it's enjoyable at fluff that makes an attempt at something more.

I don't know, The animation style is really cool, and it's nice to see a mainstream family film that doesn't stick to the conventional formula, but Peanuts occupies a very mid-20th century cultural space and at times it felt more like I was watching a wholesome 50's sitcom than a modern animated film. And maybe that's the problem with making a film based off Peanuts: Either modernize it and risk alienating existing fans, or keep it as is, and have it remain a dated, irrelevant piece of nostalgia

As someone who grew up on Peanuts and wore out his VHS copies of the old movies, I approached this with a lot of caution, because it would have been a very easy franchise to mess up. Fortunately, this movie was everything I wanted out of a Peanuts movie in 2015. Instead of trying to reimagine the characters, it was a reintroduction to today's audiences. The movie is a series of vignettes pulled from the old movies/cartoons, & I loved it. Cute, sweet, imaginative, and super nostalgic.

I expected this to be just another Peanuts Movie, but was pleasantly surprised to find it a bit more refreshing than usual. A sometimes sweet story about the debilitatingly shy & awkward Charlie Brown. The animations were well done, and the voices and sound effects were good. Best for small children, but also entertaining for adults. They got very creative with the Snoopy versus the Red Baron dogfight sequences.

I do not like much of Peanuts stuff. It's really not my thing. But the output of the animation was mesmerising. I loved it! I think they achieved nicely in 3D the feeling of the original comic strips.

Adorable Snoopy and pals! On par with the many other adorable animation films to come out in 2015. Ton of fun, but no super homerun.

Cute, harmless. Classic Peanuts to both its benefit and detraction - great adherence to the old series, but as a result it's basically a greatest hits session, doesn't feel any different from the originals. Animation looks great.

I wasn't really familiar with Peanuts going into this movie, but I left feeling really touched by the emotional core that made this cartoon such an institution.

Plays every note you'd expect but in a fresh, fun and whimsical way that should melt Schulz fans everywhere. Snoopy's such a creeper.

This may be Charlie Brown's fifth voyage across movie screens, but it's truly a rare film. It's as sweet and comforting as hot chocolate with just the right number of mini marshmallows on top. It's as cuddly as a Christmas puppy in a red bow. It's as cute as a kid tangled up in kite string. And it packs a keep-going-and-do-the-right-thing lesson that young and old alike can learn quite a lot from. (pluggedin.com)

It lacks the spirit of any of the older Peanuts movies. It's a series of vignettes used to play a best-of reel of everyone's favourite Peanuts gags. Not enough interesting or new, and the overall love story is pretty weak and certainly not enough to carry the film. It flounders to have enough content to meet it's 90 minute runtime. Kids would probably enjoy it but why not just show the classic Peanuts films instead?

I think it's clear to anyone who saw this that the Snoopy fantasy moments should have been the whole movie and the Charlie Brown love-plot should have never happened.

At times, this is so madcap that it gave me anxiety. But I think it does a nice job of updating Peanuts to the modern age, in the sense that its scrubbed clean of any indications of modernity. It feels like the same old Peanuts, except it's in 3D. The animation is decidedly gorgeous; it has the low-key expressiveness of classic Peanuts, but also feels immersive and warm.

Despite the best of intentions, some good animation, and warmth and sweetness not often seen in today's age, The Peanuts Movie is dull, unfunny, and almost a complete loss when it comes to character and plot. Its characters are one-note traits, its story contains nothing more than a series of loosely connected vignettes, there aren't many jokes, and the Snoopy fantasy scenes steal the show. It's a swing and a miss, Charlie Brown.

It's simple and wholesome but doesn't necessarily feel like anything new, if you've read or watched anything Peanuts related it'll feel very familiar and almost recycled, like a greatest hits album, which can be good or bad depending on your expectations going in.

Seen: 2. Not bad, but Peanuts has just never been my thing. I'm not a fan of the loose structure of the movie, but the animation style is fresh. Plenty to like, plenty to shrug your shoulders at.

I've never really cared for The Peanuts and this movie version is no different in that sense. It seemed quite fateful to the comics, and I respected how it was mainly built around Charlie Brown's crush on the red haired girl instead of coming up with some big action spectacle. There are Snoopy air combat scenes to provide some of that, and they take you out of the main plot, but I believe those play a big part in the comics as well. Our kids seemed to enjoy it a lot more than I did.

Sweet and fun modern adaptation of the Peanuts. Switching constantly to Snoopy's daydreams about fighting the Red Baron does take the pacing out of the movie at times.

A wholesome entertaining joy! Snoopy is da man ... er da dog ... as always but his Flying Ace sections seemed to be a little too much of an unnecessary distraction from the main plot. Worried about losing the kids' attention maybe? Other than that I couldn't fault such a wonderfully colourful and vibrant updating of the classic peanuts animation style with so much love and respect shown to these wonderful characters.

As a Peanuts fan who really hadn't enjoyed the late 80s TV specials (full of too many gags from the strips without a coherent storyline for the show), I was a bit nervous about this one. It's the traditional gang, updated for a new audience -- with tips of the hat to prior specials without completely rehashing them. Yet it still has that 50s vibe that the traditionalists will appreciate.

I really do like the visuals which combined Schulz's art style with modern animation techniques, but it mostly just seemed like a "greatest hits" retread of the comic strip, which already was repetitive enough.

We are all Charlie Brown. We are not Snoopy. THE PEANUTS MOVIE manages to be a respectfully bland update of the classic 20th century cartoons, mixing in pointless and distracting action sequences that nearly drown out the film's worthy message about snatching hope from the jaws of ennui and banality.

I grew up reading the Peanuts comic strip and watching the cartoons. It is nice to see them making another film about these characters. This film is a good one for children. I enjoyed some parts of it and there are a lot of nods to classic moments and characters. If you are a fan of Charlie Brown and the gang you should enjoy this film.

I think it's really only for die-hard Peanuts fans, or young kids. The humour was mostly slapstick and basic, and just not really funny at all apart from, like, two moments. And the plot of Charlie Brown spending the whole film trying to pluck up the courage to talk to a girl was far too simplistic. The lovable loser thing only goes so far, for me. I definitely have to praise the animation though - it's really cool-looking, and seems to capture yet modernise the original comic strips.

Nostalgic at its best and just super nice at its worst. You don't need to be a fan or know the characters to enjoy this delightful film. It won't blow you away but it's some harmless entertainment. The animation looks great, whilst trying to keep the same feel as the original comic strips.
