Evil oil barons have given the Indians one day to vacate their land. The Indian chief tells his braves to kill the first white man they see. Buster shows up chasing a butterfly. Later he keeps moving the stake to which he is tied and at which he is to be burned. He becomes one of the tribe and helps them with their fight. (imdb)

a fairly decent keaton two-realer, it's got enough gags to keep the audience going, and keaton's stone face persona shines. i can never denounce a keaton short, but this one is one that most people probably couldn't.

The gradual genocide of the Native Americans, plus we see a man murdered on camera in the first five minutes. Is it just me, or are these highly inappropriate subjects for a comedy?

The "lookie them dumb Injuns" jokes ended up outweighing the "greedy genocidal white men" jokes and the physical gags weren't good enough to make up the difference.

The best part was sliding and hanging in the tree but that rather short episode. The Redmen environment did not serve a lot funny scenes. Asbest is the best.

It's a given that this is comedy gold. But what's surprising is how non-judgmental it is, even progressive, towards the Indians. Extremely helpful is, comparitively, this is underscored by one of Keaton's most cohesive plots, with a genuine McGuffin.

An excellent Keaton short. Unlike many, this one has a coheasive storyline from beginning to end. The viewer isn't left wondering how one thing led to another and what the point of the film was at the end.
