The Painted Hills

This film is so much more than the Lassie stereotype. It is kickass. A chilling tale of greed, corruption, and revenge. Pal's performance is among the finest to ever grace the silver screen. The best action movie i've seen in a long time. Fuck MST3K, this is a legitimate masterpiece.

The last of the original Lassie films done at MGM. A more paranoia driven Lassie, or should I say Shep. I actually liked it. But then again I didn't see the MST3K cut, so I watched this without the ridicule. But I hope the mocked the make-up/hair job they did here. It's a simply shot film, but the color helped with the family movie feel. And the scenario made for a more psychological dog picture, when these are usually a lot more straight-forward. Even if Lassie was too cute for that role.

The story itself feels like a family version of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Lassie is a well-trained dog but I just never liked how the dog was used in the story and Collie's just aren't intimidating.
