It's a good throwback; careful, tense, basically a filmed stage play. Echoes of Hitchcock, with the production of a Netflix series. The pace is right on the money, and they thread in some nice character development given the compact running time. A good watch.

Another surprise from the 2020s. Moore’s direction is solid and everything edited well enough to keep me guessing. I didn’t even predict the final twist, and it’s a twist that actually makes sense and isn’t there for shock factor. Rylance and Flynn are very good. They don’t movies like this much anymore do they? This was a lot of fun and genuinely unpredictable. Do go see it if you’re looking for something to watch in the theatre right now.

Starts a little rocky and gets pretty self-satisfied in its twist-happy final act, but the film kicks nicely into gear in its middle and that’s enough to float everything else. While comprises of fairly familiar parts, The Outfit is satisfyingly suspenseful and bolstered by Mark Rylance’s strong lead performance and a well-crafted score by Alexandre Desplat.

Really good. It has a great plot that moves along smoothly. Never a slow moment for me, despite its single set. The acting from Rylance and the rest of the cast is all great. Overall, a lot of fun.

Ironically overwritten, its theatrical monologues occasionally out of place and its titular organization cartoonish, it is nevertheless compelling in its foundational simplicity. With its single set and understated central performance it forms a pleasing garment, but a talented cutter could have elevated it just that little bit more.

Reminds me of sidney lumet masterpiece "12 angry man". Not in scenario but a great thrilling story in single location, without any action.... fantastic

One-chamber piece (sigh.. lots of these nowadays, let's hope because of covid and it's not a new hype?) that is hindered by Rylance's weak acting and a creaky, unsurprising "GOTCHA" script that brings to mind the grotesque quirk of wartime movies.

Watchable, but incredibly corny one-location chamber drama.

I wish Deutch was in this more because I LOVE seeing her. Rylance's performance was endearing because the low-key nature of it added to the low-key badassery of the character, who at first just seems meek. It's directed fine and all, but the strength is in the script. This is a really clever chamber piece that manages to build its tension well, while it slowly unfolds and reveals that all is not what it seems. Even made me a little emotional by the end because it felt genuine. Cool twists too.

I think the trailer does this film a disservice. It implies that this is sort of a rollicking, multi-character violent action comedy, but it's smarter than that. Director Graham Moore (who wrote "The Imitation Game") uses the single setting and small group of characters to craft an intricate game being played by Rylance against the gangsters.

Ah, Mark Rylance. His emotionless stone face sucks the life out of every scene he's ever been in. This is a one-room stage play murder-mystery about gangsters. But how can we feel any tension or invest in anything or anyone, when a gun is pulled on someone every 5 minutes? It's numbing and boring. I can't help but wonder what a Michael Caine or a Tom Hanks would have brought to the part. The critics thought it was great, I thought it was just sew-sew.

The Outfit marks the directorial debut of Graham Moore, a novelist best known in the film world for writing the script to The Imitation Game. Co-written with Jonathan McClain (a Chicagoan, like Moore), the film has modest aims and largely achieves them.

Something was missing, and the story didn't add up. I rarely felt the tension that the movie was striving for, and the performances didn't do much for me, including Rylance's. There was a been there, done that quality.

A handful of nobodies, acting the hell out of a good script and scenery. Well worth watching, if you like that sort of thing.

This movie had top notch story writing and character development. Rylance carried this film as it ultilized tension and atmosphere to perfection. This is exactly how you tell a story of this nature. You use the cast and their talents to accentuate the world around them through various pieces of dialogue. It works because you don't need to see everything. It reminds me so much of a very well timed stage production. Well done from beginning to end.

Very much like watching a play with all but the main character constantly entering and exiting a single location. Rylance is the thread holding the entire movie together as unfortunately the rest of the cast are shabby in comparison. Though terrifically tense in parts, The Outfit attempts to weave an intricate plot that unfortunately twists itself too much to the point where it begins to unravel quite noticeably by the end.

“The Outfit” is an absorbing thriller that is easy to recommend, despite its missteps. Its commendable for its alluring performance from Mark Rylance and a sprinkling of other charismatic turns, as well as its thrilling and engrossing web of deceit and double-crosses. Although the direction and cinematography could have been better, the well-written screenplay, layered with mechanisms that drive the momentum forward, makes the film captivating and joyous to discover.

A taut psychological drama that never really gets past pretty good and then takes a bit of a hit due to a ludicrous and unnecessary ending action beat. Rylance is good and very much in control as usual in a subtle performance and the supporting players fill out the cast nicely. It's not something I'll probably remember that well a few months from now, but you can do far worse with 2 hours.

This is a very good film. It comes across a bit like a play, in that its set in a small area (a cutters shop (like a tailor, only more professional)) with few characters but its quite tense and gripping none the less and there are interesting twists, hence the pacing is good.

Despite a stellar performance from Rylance, The Outfit struggled to sustain my interest due solely to its 1950's Chicago crime-gang setting. Moore does a good job of balancing a sense of playfulness with a sense of tension, lending a good and deliberate pace to the film, especially as it's contained to a single location. On the whole, the plot feels a little hokey with lots of close-up shots, but it's well made and moderately entertaining.

Rylance showcase that gets a little too carried away w certain plot developments. I'm trying not to spoil. Enjoyable single location movie. Felt like i was watching a play which as it turns out this is based off of. 7.1 feels fair.

Several shades of brilliance throughout the film; however, the climax was a spoilsport to an otherwise blemish-free film. Spoilers: In the climax, the villain comes back from the dead, and the protagonists is revealed to be an ex-con highly skilled in combat with a troubling past. Brain farts are supposed to be excluded. Otherwise an almost perfect film.

S P O I L E R S “I’m a cutter” he warned him. Johnny Flynn was great and really stood out to me having that great 1920’s-30’s cadence and rhythm to his lines. Dylan O’Brien unfornately couldn’t compete. And the beginning narration and dialogue weren’t good enough. Aaand it took way too many turns. The idea to make the cutter the mastermind was the most unforgivable. Past those it was a cool clever single-setting noir that I enjoyed… Light 7

The Outfit is a good gangster film, with its theatrical texture, Hitchcockian storytelling, and good use of one-location aesthetics. I like stories that make you keep guessing for what will happen at any given moment, even if they are simple. The tension between the characters was also great. I had a fun time.
