Great little haunted house story with good performances, lots of fog, and tons of creepy, atmospheric dread - just how I like 'em. When it’s all over, a second viewing - or at least some heavy-duty hindsight - may be necessary to put everything in its place. Good stuff.

The eery atmosphere, clever plot twists and fine performances make this one hell of a psychological terror film. Kidman is specially in the top of her game in this performance.

Nothing that interesting or remarkable about this one. Excruciatingly boring throughout and the twist wasn't worth watching the rest of the film. In fact the twist was pretty terrible. There's nothing technically wrong with this film, it's just not my thing and I never cared. The child actors were pretty good though.

I hadn't seen this in ten years and yet ALL of the suspense was gone. I'm not sure if that's a knock against the movie or a testament to the impression it left a decade ago. It was a fascinating watch knowing what was coming, yet not really being effected by it. One of the few movies I can think of that only has rewatch value from a technical standpoint. The other few that come to mind all star Robert Z'Dar (not really).

Very uneven. It begins promisingly and is superb until about the middle, where it just runs of steam and becomes a tepid affair. The ending twist almost saves it -I certainly didn't see it coming, but its resemblance to the ending of the "Sixth Sense" limited its effectiveness. Kidman is excellent.

This movie... surprised me. I can honestly say that the first time I watched it I had no idea where the plot was going. And once you watch it once, it really does warrant a second viewing at some later date. I am not generally a fan of horror/thrillers, but this is one of the few I would recommend.

Not really novel to equate ghosts with memory, but this one does it really well. For a ghost story, it's kind of funny that the most haunting aspect is the well of regret and repression that pools at its end.

The twist isn't as surprising as you would hope, but it's completely fulfilling nonetheless. The acting is what I found to be so impressive in The Others. Across the board, all of the characters in the movie seemed to be portrayed in a believable way for the setting and time period as well as staying delightfully creepy at the same time. I really enjoyed The Others and recommend this to people who like horror but aren't interested in cheap scare tactics.

The mood of this film is perfect. The lonely house, the fog, the mild mannered servants, and the darkness - all wonderfully done. Kidman's solid, albeit a bit annoying, performance is the only thing that breaks away from the sleepy tone, but, obviously, it all fits.

Mystical. Breathtaking. So few characters involved yet the film was able to surprise the viewers especially at the end. This shows that a movie need not employ thousands of actors to create a lasting impression. Spoiler: The earlier movie "Haunted" filmed in 1995 makes "The Others" a cheap copycat and beat the latter's romantic and cinematographic elements. My SCORING: 99-96=Great; 95-90=Very good; 89-85=Good; 84-80=So-so; 79-70=Boring; Below 70=Forget it.

Great twist ending on this one. I actually felt myself get scared, or at least spooked. The atmosphere was amazing, much better than a hack/slash movie with so much violence you can't watch it. I suspect that the term "pleasant" is the least expected when used to describe a horror film .. But 'The Others' is a pleasant enough caper, but is SO slow and SO unscary that the only thing is has going for it is the twist at the end .... everything leads to that twist, and frankly, that is not good enough .. the journey to that point should be memorable in its own right, and unfortunately, it isnt.

More of a mystery than a horror movie in the same manner as *spoilers* The Sixth Sense. The production design is awesome, but unfortunately it's the type of movie where the majority of the runtime is dedicated to watching the character walk really slowly in the dark, then find something spooky and run for a minute as the music swells; rinse and repeat ad nauseum until the big reveal.

Just--ridiculous. The thing with the keys...I started thinking that I was watching a sequel to Mommie Dearest after a while. And the ending was SOOO corny...the finale of The Sixth Sense was a cliche too ("You mean I'm...dead?"), but at least it was very well made. This thing was just D-U-M dumb.

I don't think that The Others is worth your time, as it has too many lulls that go on for far too long. It builds a solid atmosphere, but doesn't do much with it. It has good performances and is very simplistic, which works to its advantage, but I lost focus as it was playing. It almost redeems itself with some late-game plot twists, but sitting through over an hour and a half to get to them simply wasn't worth it for me, despite being very well-executed.

Somewhat like The Innocents meets The Sixth Sense and no worse than they are, but I find that all of these ghost stories trying to be clever are for the most part rather silly, and The Others is no exception. The children's acting here is considerably better than Nicole Kidman's.
