Great cast, not a bad idea, decent movie, just....misses something. Has a TV movie vibe, never QUITE lands correctly. Name sucks too.

I loved the performances, but I was a little more ambivalent about the movie as a whole. The characters behave in ways I don't buy, and things wrap up a little too unrealistically. Still, an enjoyable and competent diversion.

Someone watched 'The Graduate' too many times and thought the MTV generation could use a ham-fisted, unchallenging updated version. I predicted an hour in advance how the film would end, i.e. with Shawkat's character narrating; surprise surprise... What was even worse was the entire audience laughing at every(!) joke, the movie might as well have had a laugh track. Brody did have the best line of the film, too bad the rest was so boring.

A romantic comedy with a juicy story about an older man, Hugh Laurie, falls in love with his best friends daughter, Leighton Meester. A lot of awkward moments spring forth from this little conundrum. What doesn't help is that Alia Shawkat already hates Meester for stealing a past boyfriend and now Meester is stealing her dad. There are a few laughs in this, but mostly because things are pretty tense and awkward. The movie feels a lot longer than it actually is so it loses some points for that.

Again we see that; buying stuff, doing some neo-colonial charity crap or seducing young girls can ease the pain of being rich and white. Dreadful, toothless dramedy.

Quirky fluff addition to the older man/younger woman romance movies. Nothing innovative or deep, but the cast makes it passable.

Quirky movie, and gave me back my Hugh Laurie, although I think they went far too tame with it.

The Oranges boasts an impressive cast yet still disappoints with a tepid script that is neither as witty nor as farcical as it needed to be to pull off what I imagine it was going for. The film isn't bad, per se, rather it never escapes mediocrity despite a decent start. Everything that happens just seems banal through the writing and direction.
