In this hard-hitting but humorous documentary, director Jamie Johnson takes the exploration of wealth that he began in Born Rich one step further. The One Percent, refers to the tiny percentage of Americans who control nearly half the wealth of the U.S. Johnson's thesis is that this wealth in the hands of so few people is a danger to our very way of life. There is a great deal that could be said about the class divide in America and the related free market structure. The philosophic underpinnings are both vast and profound, but this guy doesn't do anything to address any of them. His account of the so-called problem (which he does a poor job of illustrating the fact of) is one sided and just barely skims the surface. An overall poor effort, in my opinion.

Well, this title ended up being a bit predictive. Borrows heavily from the Michael Moore style narration, intentionally low, drawling, flat, depressing. Does struggle with some inconsistent subject matter. At least he got access to some interesting people & did manage to hold some compelling discussions painting current American society. The Martini scene with his father & advisor questioning why he is interrupting them for an argument sums up the forced nature of the doco. Let them drink.

God, this film is maddening. Johnson is such a dim bulb. He's got a right idea for a film, but it's so simplistic and loaded, you want to strip the rich of their wealth just so better filmmakers can make films and he'll have to give his camera to someone smarter, who could actually make a powerful film about the class divide.
