If you're going to remake a movie almost scene for scene just to update the hair styles, than remake THX 1138.

Usually you hear about remakes failing because they stray too far away from the original. This is on the opposite end of that spectrum. It just sort of retraces the steps of the original, scene by scene. Technically, it's not horrible - though the cinematography is really the only thing worthy of praise - but it's not nearly as effective as the original.

This isn't a shot for shot remake like they did with Psycho
But let’s face it
It’s pretty darn close
( Personally)
I don't think you can go wrong with either film
But I give the remake a slight edge
Because I liked the special effects better

Supposed signs of prophecy in wrong order chronologically, unless Challenger blew up AFTER 9-11. And speaking of 9-11: they're still permitting him to take all those knives on the plane? And on an international flight from the Middle East at that? I mean, at the very least they wouldn't let him bring them in his carry-on luggage... though the filmmakers missed an awesome opportunity by not showing him trying to sneak the Daggers of Megiddo through airport metal detectors.

Before I start I should note that I haven't seen the original all the way through, but I have seen enough to know that this remake copies the original scene for scene. However this film does little for me, other than the inherant feeling of creepiness that was also associated with the original. The kid in this is a little unconvincing as well, mostly coming off as a brat. The Omen is really an unwanted remake, replacing actors and bringing out an old script again isn't going to be a fresh start.

Basic cable version of the 1976 film -- which is not even great, but just effective and supported by a true stellar score. I like Stiles and Farrow, and that's all. Eveything sounds lazy and generic, not to mention the lack of will to go a bit further and darker than the original -- the only true difference is the use of shitty, pointless of one or two jump scares in nightmarish sequences. I hope they never try to remake it again and stick to First Omen-related stuff.

Typical horror remake where the only thing that looks better are the visuals. Other than that it fails to generate true scares and doesn't even really make an impact. It's boring and predictable which makes for a long watch on what could have been a good movie. It sucks watching such talent fumble away bad lines and bad delivery to the point where no interest is generated but alas that is what we have here unfortunately..

Diplomatic couple adopts a child, only to discover it happens to be the anti-Christ. Nearly scene-by-scene remake released for the 30th anniversary of the original is technically well-made with decent performances (including a surprising turn from Mia Farrow as the wicked nanny), but never really justifies its existence as a stand-alone film.

This isn't necessarily a bad movie, or even a bad remake. It's just pointless. It is almost completely identical to the original. Except nearly everything is worse, with Damien's creepy performance being a big example. But on the other hand, Mia Farrow puts on a great performance, and any scene with her works fine.

Almost scene-for-scene remake is enjoyable enough, but lacks the brutal, comparitively stark directness of the original, and desperately lacks an actor with Gregory Peck's gravitas to anchor the outlandish goings-on. However, Farrow is genuinely creepy as Damien's nanny, and the film is competently made with some notable gotcha! moments, but (by design) can't escape the shadow of the far more effective original. Score is a genuine score and not an attempt to be clever!

This remake is absolutely pointless. Sure there are some little changes here and there, and Mia Farrow is always a welcome addition, but this remake was unnecessary. One thing they REALLY screwed up was Damien. The original Damien was good because he was just a regular kid. He acted like a regular kid. That's what makes it frightening: this kid doesn't know who he is. But in the remake, Damien is just weird. He's a creepy little kid, and seems to "know" which is the completely wrong direction..

While it follows the script of the original closely, the Omen in no way captures the original's brilliance for two major reasons. First is the lack of the brutal death scenes that dominated the 70s version. The second and more noticeable is Liev Schriber's inability to fill the shoes of Gregory Peck. Overall, the Omen seems like a cheap imitation than an attempt at retelling the story.

It's over-the-top camp, but if you demand satisfaction from this, it won't let you down. That doesn't mean it's good (far from it), but the hilariously bloody death scenes are undeniably entertaining, and there's a solid cast of character actors (Thewlis, Farrow, Postlethwaite, Gambon) to buoy it from death to death. Stiles sleepwalks through her top-billed performance, but its Schreiber who really shines in the Gregory Peck role. And speaking of Gregory Peck, watch his version of this instead.
