Oh, how poorly acted. They were clearly theater men and wasn't getting the right guidance from director Thomas Bentley as how to act for the camera. Really clueless staging. But this is a Charles Dickens adaptation and there's always a soul in his stories, especially with theater people, meaning there is something genuine about this creaky old British film.
