The Odd Couple II

I will never not like a Matthau/Lemon movie. This isn't the best but I liked it

A totally unnecessary sequel that often fails to justify its own existence, T.O.C II reunites Lemmon and Matthau for their final film and largely coasts on their considerable charm, which is fine for fans who keep their expectations in check. It isn't even as funny as Grumpy Old Men let alone The Odd Couple, but there is some amusement in watching their frustrated attempts to travel cross country together to their childrens' wedding. Simon's script has a few good lines, and it's a breezy ride.

A blatant cash grab after the success of Grumpy Old Men and its followers. It's surprising how enjoyable this can be despite its vapid script.

Recaptures a limited amount of charm from the original, but overall is found lacking. It was probably way too late to make a sequel, one really should have been produced during the 70s or 80s. Saying that Lemmon and Matthau do manage to recreate elements of those enjoyable personality clashes making it potentially still worth a brief look for fans of the original.
