some parts really annoy, but some others are hilarious... he's definitely a natural talent for comedy

Don't know why I enjoyed this as much as I did. Every aspect of the production is B-movie quality but it has a charm all its own that makes all that easy to forget.

Good, but I much prefer The Patsy.

Very very silly. But some laughs of course, and a surprisingly intriguing and unique mise en scene.

There's some really, really funny stuff in here. Some misses, too, but it's more the weird editing and sloppy production that hold it back.

Lewis' much praised formalism certainly leaves jokes to unpack, but the auteurists protest too much: if you have to spend time intellectually analysing a joke, chances are it isn't particularly funny. The analysis should come _after_ the joke has landed, not before. Thankfully, many of the jokes in TNP are funny and well staged, and Lewis' use of colour is distinctive and bold. His performance in a dual role also ranks among his best, especially as the arrogant Buddy Love.

Self indulgent, abrasive and obnoxious comedy - if you like Lewis, there's possibly some fun to be had, but it ultimately emerges as a crass, mean spirited swipe at his former Rat Pack buddies in the form of the 'Buddy Love' alter ego, leading to a stomach churning display of sanctimony and moralising in the final reel. At least the 60s milieu makes for a colorful and glossy production, and there are a couple of gags which land, but the nasty tone undermines the film as a whole.

As for comedies without nonstop jokes, this film shows a good example of what these moments should probably be like, instead of remaining just unfunny breathers or sap. It's such a silly, but so pretty (inside and out) and smartass film. Don't you think the summaries sum a bit too much though? Just take it as a Jekyll & Hyde modernization.

Very strong film. Conventionally structured though bolstered by amazing set-pieces and an excellent co-lead performance from Jerry Lewis. Chris Fujiwara's book makes a great accompaniment.

It has aged horribly. Not funny as once it was.

I'm not sure that this Jekyll and Hyde may not be the clearest tribute to the power of the myth. This is a comedy only in its pretext. It's also a tense exploration of character, and maybe the first time Jerry Lewis put his popularity at risk. You can work it out for yourself in this extraordinary film, and test the evidence that Lewis is a self-conscious artist torn between the one-reel knockabout farce and a sermonizing film. Yes, it's an awkward mix, and one Chaplin had pioneered.

It's solidly directed but as an actor Jerry Lewis is either your cup of tea or he isn't. Give me coffee any day.

I don't find it all that funny but it's the best movie about personality that I've ever seen, and tragic to the point that you might even tear up.
