Potage cinema. A smooth, featureless remix of The Force Awakens, Narnia, and the recent A Wrinkle in Time where elements that got the biggest slice of the pie-chart from the army sized focus group are fitted into a story with those sweet sweet public domain benefits. The only interesting bit was the implication that the villain's motivation was that being evil gave her sexual gratification.

This movie is called "The Nutcracker and the Four Realms". The nutcracker is only a side character and out of four realms, only one is of importance to the movie. It would really help the movie, if it would not be a "Nutcracker" adaption. So here are some better fitting titles: "Clara & The Fantasy Land", "Daddy cannot grieve so much because he has to hold this family together", "Of all her three children, Mommy loved you the most" or "KEIRA KNIGHTLEY, PLEASE STEP ON ME!!!"

Sorry we didn't trust you at first, Ginger, but sending that terrifying rat monster after us probably wasn't your best opening move.

Honestly, it has some heart and charm, and it has a lot of genuinely good visuals, but this is just about the thinnest excuse for a screenplay I've ever seen. It lacks both the extensive worldbuilding and character development that a film like this needs to succeed.

Nothing about this movie works, bad acting by actors in over the top costumes performing in front of an eternal green screen. The music is also an issue, the music itself is great but it feels out of place amidst the garnish visuals.

Like most of the “Disney live action” sub-series, it consistently looks like a million bucks - lush and vibrant and colorful and grand and warmly lit big screen-worthy visuals start to finish; just lovely. Literally every single other thing about it is moldy, reheated Narnia leftovers (and the Narnia movies weren’t even especially good in the first place so that’s saying something). Morgan Freeman makes the poster for his 100 seconds of screentime, lol.

beautiful costumes and set pieces don't make up for a tired and mediocre story.

To be honest, it's full of cliches but it's a bed-time story so it wouldn't be right to judge the story itself or Disney. Costumes were good enough, make-up was meh. But casting is more than okay; especially Foy. She's so talented and I believe one day she will get an Oscar. You have a bright future Mackenzie, keep it going.

It just never got farther than meh for me. All of the sets are detailed and there is a lot to look at throughout. The costumes are equally well done. The music is also great, as should be expected. The plot is interesting in theory. There are some exciting moments but we don't really learn anything about this land besides there is strife. Mirren's character should have been fleshed out more. Too much time was spent on focusing on the looks of the world and not enough time on story and script.

It's as lavishly colourful as the poster suggests, but you can't just replace dancing with watery dialogue and expect a ballet adaptation to stand up. A skeleton script and generated environments, no matter how "aesthetic", simply cannot sustain the shallow narrative of a dance routine without its dance. Empty but cute.

Disney'in görsel efekt cümbüşü.

Hey Disney, Nutcracker is based on a perfectly serviceable children's story, so there's really no need to take the ballet and brutally shove it into the same formula used for Alice In Wonderland.

Looks great, sounds great, has too much plot and wastes too much time on shenanigans instead of following its emotional core (also called "story"). Which is unfortunate especially, whenever this is accomplished with silly-looking, boring fight scenes. Casting someone who can act for the part of Phillip would have also been helpful. Or just getting rid of that utterly useless character as a whole.

Charming fantasy film is perhaps a little cluttered at times, but benefits from a fine cast having a whale of a time; Knightley in particular is hilariously over-the-top and arguably the most relaxed and fun as she's ever been. Beautiful costume/production design and an infectiously light-hearted, upbeat spirit make this one of the most surprisingly enjoyable fantasy films of recent years. Can't go wrong with Tchaikovsky's score!

The Nutcracker is a pseudo-moralistic tale that combines Narnia and Wonderland to create a lethargic world of ill-defined rules. The film is marred by overacting, an inconsistent tone, and half-baked concepts. It does try with its encorporation of the ballet and its interpretation of characters, but it never comes together. The cast is impressive but not used well. Knightly commits to her shtick, which while entertaining isn't very good. Probably best to give this one a miss.

I actually had decent expectations just from the set and costume design, but the story really doesn't live up to the elaborate scenes. Sort of your typical fairytale kids-fantasy drivel, light on any interesting plot except that there are bad and good people. The movie is also way too slow with useless dialogue before it gets to the action sequences, for a film that should be trying to show that off. Keira Knightley is a lone bright spot, I really loved her performance.

[Watch if you want to kill time with pretty] Not terrible, but I wouldn't describe it as great either. It's pretty (as a Disney movie should be), it's enertaining, and it's vaguely associated with The Nutcracker. You could do worse than see this movie.

That moment she sees the mirror... Oh, agony... Agony! This movie is literally geared towards 2-year-olds. If you don't believe me, just log in to Amazon and pick up the 8-page masterpiece called "Lamaze Captain Calamari's Treasure Hunt Soft Book."

I think Disney has a huge problem casting/directing young actors properly. They're always terrible in Disney productions, seemingly moreso than in films in general. The world is underdeveloped - where even are the other three realms? At least show them in a montage or something, jeez. The highlight is a delightfully camp and over the top Keira Knightley - she's honestly great.

The better of Disney's releases this year. Absolutely magical, if formulaic entertainment that provides an excellent score from James Newton Howard and a splendid performance from Helen Mirren. Takes no unexpected turns and doesn't ever intend to do so. Always remains entertaining and enchanting throughout.

Foy is charming and expressive, and Knightley is hilariously over the top... But they don't prevent the movie from being the predictable, threadbare slog that it is. The final five minutes uplift it, but don't save it.
