The documentary focuses on eight people suffering from sleep paralysis, a phenomenon where people find themselves temporarily unable to move, speak, or react to anything while they are falling asleep or awakening. Occasionally this paralysis will be accompanied by physical experiences or hallucinations that have the potential to terrify the individual. In the film Ascher interviews each participant and then tries to re-create their experiences on film with professional actors. (en.wikipedia.org)

I've experienced sleep paralysis once a few years ago....scariest shit ever. No joke. What I didn't know about, were the shadow people who come for you when it happens regularly. Well that's just great. I didn't want to ever sleep again anyways!

I experienced sleep paralysis once few years back - shit was scary, my experience was very similar to those told in this film. Is this documentary informative? Not at all; it's just a few random people telling their experiences, and those are reenacted Rescue 911 style. You won't learn any scientific explanation of this phenomena. It might be eye-opening documentary for people who had experiences sleep paralysis, and have no idea that this is pretty common, but otherwise skip it.

I'm sure Ascher spent some time contemplating whether to actually attempt to depict the subjects' experiences. There may well be a way to do it without diluting the horror but I don't think Ascher managed to find it. By the way, at any time and without warning or reason, this could suddenly be your life. Ta!

At least it was useful to understand the "extra-terrestrial abductions".

The Nightmare (2015) is a documentary where 8 people talk about their sleep paralysis. I'm glad I'm not these guys and can sleep peacefully. Must be a total mindfuck! While somewhat interesting, the documentary at times could put you to sleep. Have nice dreams....

Turns out listening to people talk about their dreams is tedious in the documentary format, too. Certainly not helped out by the really unconvincing re-enactments, which serve to undermine the horror the victims experience. Favorite part was the idea (not particularly new -- see: Cure) that sleep paralysis is a "contagious" ailment -- a condition that is "viral" in the newer sense and kinda makes the filmmakers and subjects, through their participation here, complicit in its spread.

Interesting documentary in terms of just people telling their stories as they see them. Do not expect any professionals or science to be discussed regarding sleep paralysis because there is none. The recreations are done in an interesting way although I probably would have preferred the science over attempts to be scary.

Silly as hell in its reenactments. Sporadically interesting examination of sleep paralysis but overall watchable
