3 narcissistic man-children fueled with drugs and alcohol joylessly slog their way through every xmas movie and party movie trope you can think of. It's so desperately unfunny that they even drag James Franco onscreen for a cameo where he and Seth Rogen act gay for each other. Again. The only points this scores are for Michael Shannon's zen pot dealer character, but even his meager story arc is given the most astonishingly stupid ending. Avoid this rubbish.

I just can't get any hate for this. The cast is brilliant and makes the script wonderful (some jokes may not have worked without them and I can't take most actors being high the entire movie... except Rogan). It has some heart, the cameos are great; what more do you want from a dramedy? Plus, Shannon is the greatest pot dealer ever.

Another midling Rogen comedy, with several bright spots and the rest largely forgettable. He either needs to cut ties with James Franco, or fuck him , x rated hardcore in his next film, as the gay obsession they have has run its course. Shannon was my favorite part of this and I think he should get his own spin off prequel.

I totally dug this. I can agree that JGL is perhaps not best-suited to mostly-comedic roles such as this (moreso to roles like 50/50, also directed by Levine, which is the perfect dramedy mix), but in terms of stoner comedies I don't think it's fair to hate on this. Most of the criticisms I've read towards this are not earned. Criticize a movie being cameo-heavy if you must but every single one of them had comedic or narrative impact. For what this movie is TRYING to be, I really enjoyed it.

Ehhhhhhhhhh. It's predictable and the vast majority of the funny parts are in the trailers. The message is obvious and forced in. I did get some laughs and definitely enjoyed many of the smaller roles, but I don't think Gordon-Levitt is really good at comedic roles.

While the cast certainly has clout within the comedy realm, Christmas movies are a hard sell during any other time of the year and need to overcome stiff competition during the holidays. Like about a billion other Christmas movies, this one is forgettable, yet perfectly tolerable when provided with an ample supply of egg nog.

The Night Before is the mediocre stoner Christmas movie you'd expect from Rogen. There are a few moments that made me chuckle: the demon baby; the crucifixion "It's happening again"; Morgan's narration. The rest is fairly benign.

For the talent involved, it was pretty disappointing but then again, it's pretty much what you might expect. The cameos were great and there are some moments, but it's definitely one of those films you'll just watch once or when your bored and never again. Michael Shannon, legit stole every scene he was in and probably saved this one from being a total disaster.

Definitely dig the casting choices here all the way down to the smallest of cameos. It had some good laughs and some genre cliches which create some havoc near the end of the script when trying to neatly tie everything up. Still overall this is an enojoyable flick with enough charm to let the minor faults slide.

You could find worse escapism for the holidays than watching Seth Rogen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anthony Mackie play overgrown adolescents ready to endure one last monumental Christmas hangover as long as they can have a blast the night before. That's the movie. And it's rowdy fun with a dash of sweetness.

When a film's only redeeming quality is watching Seth Rogan act like himself then there is an issue. The aimlessness that The Night Before exhibits comes across as the filmmakers having no clue what to do with the actors. JGL is a huge douche which isn't funny nor convincing. Anthony Mackie just seems out of place hanging out with the other two leads, Caplan, and Franco. A new classic this is not.

A new holiday movie to add to the yearly mix. Very much in line with the first Harold and Kumar movie. Not always the funniest, but an endearing movie imbued with just the right amount of holiday spirit.

Seth Rogen (Isaac) carries most of the comedic weight in The Night Before with a solid performance from Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Ethan). Although they were in more minor roles, I thought Mindy Kaling (Sarah), Lizzy Caplan (Diana), and Jillian Bell (Betsy) were all welcome additions. The movie was enjoyable, gets a few laughs, and gives you glimpses of the potential of the actresses and actors in it, but doesn't do much more than that.

I don't have a huge amount to say about this movie. It's a pretty typical comedy of this era, and very similar to things like The Hangover (2009) and The World's End (2013). And it's not really the greatest example from that genre either, but I didn't mind it. It had some funny moments, mostly from Seth Rogen and several great cameos. Certainly not a film I'd recommend particularly, but it's pretty harmless.

Yet another comedy staring Seth Rogen about dude bros who are struggling to accept the responsibilities of adulthood. It's also another one of those 'final night' type films where the characters have one last hurrah (in this case a night on the town involving sex and drugs) before settling down to the hum-drum existence of family life which involves no partying. There are some funny moments, and the cast definitely sell the ordinary material, but it could have easily been better.

I didn't laugh much at all. At times the movie barely shows a beating heart, but there is not a story here. Instead it's about men in their 30s doing all sorts of drugs, having sex and causing mayhem - while being afraid to grow up and realizing it's okay to never fully grow up.

It had some pretty funny parts, and the character chemistry is there. JGL gets a bit of a bad rap for his weak roles in comedy but I don't think his role was really intended to be just another Seth Rogen. It was a lot more enjoyable to watch than I had figured it to be. I had actually been putting off watching it, but certainly glad I gave it a watch.

Seth Rogen carries this film about three men who need to "grow up" emotionally, but there is a lot of other stuff to like. Unfortunately, JGL is forced to carry the emotional weight of the film, and I am unsure if its because the script or JGL himself, but those moments feel hollow. Still, the film is funny, and I had many a chuckle, so I give this film one-and-a-half thumbs up!

Mackie being the co-star is really given nothing to work with. JGL just sucks at comedy especially when he has to keep up with Rogen/Caplan etc. Shannon steals the show (but how could he not??). Worth it just for Rogen's scenes. Would've liked a bit more of the ladies tbh.

Obviously, The Night Before owes a great deal to Christmas movies. And tonally, the ending reminded me of Ted Demme's Beautiful Girls. Still, the laughs are spaced out a bit, but the actors have a relatable chemistry. Sadly, The best jokes are all located in the trailer. Edgar Wright's The World's End is a better flick on a group of emotionally stunted manchilds having fun. Yet I can't hate that much on any movie that uses the beat from Kanye West's "Runaway" to riff on a Tom Hanks movie.

You know what to expect from a Seth Rogen movie, and this one delivers on its premise as expected. Like most comedies, its quality mostly boils down to personal experience. But with that said, this movie has some surprisingly poignant and truthful reflections on friendship in one's thirties. That won't make it stand the time as a holiday classic, but I've seen worse Christmas comedies.

The story seems predicated on our three friends having one last wild night--on one of the holiest nights of the year--before officially "growing up." Sort of a bachelor party for bidding adieu to immaturity. But isn't that the same argument drug, alcohol and other addicts often use to excuse "one last night" of inebriation? "I'll do this one more time and then get clean," they say. Until the next last time. (pluggedin.com)

While The Night Before may not be the funniest Christmas movie of all time, it's up there, particularly if you're a fan of stoner comedies. With an outstanding number of laughs, interesting and somewhat deep characters, numerous opportunities for both the audience and the characters to learn and grown, fantastic supporting work, and a plot that gives us more to do than just wander from place to place, The Night Before is pretty fantastic.
