Call me crazy, but I rather enjoyed "The New Daughter" despite its silly premise and dopey title. The film manages to mix supernatural and creature-feature horror within a satisfying drama, and I found it to be unsettling throughout. Kevin Costner is one of the most underrated actors in the business, but he has only improved with age. A flawed B-movie this may be, but it is well-executed and could have been a moderate box office hit with proper marketing and a better title.

Perplexing. Costner must have owed someone a favor to be in this overly familiar horror vehicle. The kids are both pretty terrible, as child actors usually are.

First, this film is rather stylishly shot and directed--probably much better than the ridiculous B-movie storyline deserved. But, the thing that strikes me most is that Kevin Costner signed a contract to participate in this movie after reading the script! I'm not even a Costner fan, yet I'm saddened that his career has taken such a dump! All of that being said, "The New Daughter" is acceptable enough if you're in the mood for campy B-movie horror. . . AND I DO MEAN B MOVIE!!

a bit slow on the build up, but once it gets there it's actually not a bad supernatural thriller flick. maybe the premise is a bit on the silly side, but the monsters are scary enough and the climax satisfied me. that ending was pretty decent too.

Not that bad but kind of slowish and I did not like the end.

The use of music in the dramatic scenes feels overwrought. There are decent elements here admittedly, but they are by far not enough to make a whole movie.

Oh, how the formerly-mighty Costner has fallen, and I mean fallen. Is he that desperate for work? Seems like no work would be better than this schlock... Costner does play dim-witted EXTREMELY convincingly, I must say.

Surprisingly good, very well shot and does a great job of building an unsettling sense of tension. The pacing is a little slow but really picks up towards the end.

Exceptionally good acting with excellent music and sound effects successfully drives the suspense, but the plot is so pathetically stupid that it is all wasted on this movie. An exceedingly dumb premise, along with idiotic lack luster monsters, ruins any chance it had to be a good movie. The ending was especially lame. It really wouldn't have taken much to fix this movie, but it was wrapped up like a piece of garbage and short changed instead.

Useless, pointless.

The audio recording quality was often weak, the film felt indie. The dialog was amateur, this should have been a film for the great Kevin Costner.

"Not good" fails to do this film justice. "Bad" could even be described as a misnomer. It's no wonder this never made the theatres and went straight to DVD. Perhaps Kevin Costner is entering the twilight of his career as an actor, considering he would appear in a pale of shite like "The New Daughter."
