Ice Harding, outlaw, tames a wild horse and names it King. Ice and his gang hold up a stagecoach and encounter San Francisco vice king Bates and his innocent niece Betty Werdin. Ice is taken with the young woman, but at first she sees nothing in him. Don't know why it took me this long for me to thread down The Narrow Trail (1917), but finally I get to witness one of William S. Hart's most praised westerns. While it's pretty much the template for many westerns to come, it's very raw and expressive one that takes advantage of every shot it does. Could have hoped for a bigger climax, but the film provides thrills, romance and one of the greatest screen cowboys there ever was, so I won't complain.
