The living proof that puppets are for everyone, not just kids. A heartwarming, beautifully shot and incredibly mature story. The puppetry is so well done, that the Muppets feel like real people. It is the living example, of what a family film should be.

The Muppet Movie is the original and the best. The Muppet show was before my time, but I grew up with the Muppet movies and with this first film in particular there is a warmth and nostalgia that has stood the test of time. From the memorable songs to the loveable characters, this is a thoroughly enjoyable family fillm. The humour is wonderfully self aware and the cameos are brilliant too. The sequels that follow may be of mixed quality, but this original film is always worth revisiting.

Great stuff if you like the muppets. Plenty of amusing cameos, fun songs and good one-liners. I like all the action Animal got, but my two favorite muppets (Beaker and Swedish Chef) were unfortunately lacking (even though I don't know where they would have been put in at.

I have to say that this isn't as strong as later Muppet films. The plot is pretty nonsensical, and the songs are mostly pretty bad. That said, they're classic characters, and this was made during the days when Jim Henson was still in charge, so they retain all the traits that made them so likable in the first place. Most of the jokes are funny and the many celebrity cameos mostly come off well. Not a great film, or even the best Muppet movie, but it's still enjoyable for the most part.

A good flick for children. Unfortunately I never saw this as a kid, so from my perspective it doesn't benefit from any nostalgia. Shoddy production values, thin plot progression, and an endless stream of lame punchlines made it difficult for me to get a strong kick out of this. Lots of great cameos, though.

Just the lovers and dreamers and me basking in the rainbow of earnest Kermit pluckin' a tune on his banjo and then biking to Hollywood with his spindly legs. The rest of the meta road movie is just as delightful with its apundance of silliness and kooky characters (a chicken and whatever Gonzo is besides a “plumbing artiste” to name an actual couple). Love the last act with its night of quiet reflection (see the campfire song and self-talk) before the light breaks through (and Animal too).

This is a very charming watch nowadays, as its obviously made pre-CGI and I find it quite nostalgic. I grew up watching the Muppets - The Muppet Show, Muppets films and the Muppet Babies cartoons etc. I sometimes prefer the real life (2D?) puppet style of animation compared to sometimes almost neon coloured CGI films. I was particularly impressed to see a scene featuring Kermit riding a bike - that can't have been an easy scene to film, certainly. I enjoyed the celeb appearances. Great film.

I understand Muppet purists who, when they see post-Henson Muppet properties, get all up in arms and say shit like, "How DARE you! This is not my Muppets! My Muppets are so camp they would make RuPaul cringe!" What I'm saying is, this is really good because it's probably the best distillation of what the Muppets are as a form of entertainment -- even though I prefer some of their later concoctions better.

Unashamedly silly but rarely laugh-out-loud funny (though I did laugh when the Swedish Chef was shown running the movie projector), this is a fun movie about friendship and pursuing your dreams. More about the journey than the destination, it was fitting when Orson Welles as the studio executive simply and anticlimactically said, "give them the standard rich-and-famous contract". Lots of fun cameos.

A true delight for Muppets fan, like myself, or fans of the comedy genre at all. Muppets Movie reunites a cast of famous puppets for a journey of epic proportions and has some of the best comedy of the 20th century along the way. Its pacing is a little weird and it leaned on some odd directorial choices but nothing dealbreaking. An amazing ride.

I'll never get the Rainbow Connection song out of my head now. This movie is incredibly cute. I love that this is the origin story to the Muppets. You get to watch Kermit move from the swamp and along the way meet all his friends that end up becoming famous along with him. A lot of big-name actors are seen along the way, my favorite being Steve Martin. The music is incredible and if you love really corny jokes (like I do) then this is the movie for you...

Honestly doesn't hold up as well as I wish it did. For me, it's aged pretty poorly. And that's a shame, because I love the Muppets. But I think their humor (or, at least, the humor of their feature films) is best enjoyed in their own era.

Maybe I'm a heretic, or maybe I was just tired, but I honestly much preferred the 2011 revival of the series. This is certainly enjoyable, with some great silly gags, fine songs ("The Rainbow Connection", of course, but I also quite like "Movin' Right Along"), and the natural charm of the Muppets themselves. But there's something vaguely off about it; Henson's performance as Kermit in particular seems lackluster, and some potentially strong moments seem buried by James Frawley's iffy direction.

This felt oddly like a Mel Brooks movie at parts; I was delighted to see his cameo shortly after I came to that conclusion. Utterly charming introduction to Muppet sensibilities is a sheer delight, thanks to tuneful music and lyrics, and endearing 'performances' by all of the Muppets on display. If it occasionally feels a little padded (and top-heavy with 'guest stars'), the screenplay is surprisingly sharp and witty, and the overall joyful spirit of the enterprise gets it over the finish line with style.

Not bad, but the style doesn't really work for me. A ton of groan-worthy puns, mildly amusing cameos and no tension at all despite a plot structure that necessitates it. Not a fan of the musical numbers either. The best part is the interaction between the central muppets, Kermit, Fozzie, Piggy and Gonzo. More of that interplay and less of everything else would have been preferred.

I grew up with the Muppet TV show, but I've only seen this film as an adult. Most of my enjoyment came from the various cameos throughout (esp. Orson Welles, Bob Hope, Steve Martin, and Mel Brooks). The narrative moved along quickly enough, but the songs have not really aged well. Ultimately, it's hard not to be won over by fun Muppet characters like Animal, Rowlf, and especially Beaker.

Strictly for kids, and the younger the better. The simplicity of the images, the queer lunar lighting, and the 3-D-ish, split-level compositions give you the feeling of looking at a View-Master rather than at a movie. Henson's dead-eyed puppets are pretty uninteresting as shapes and colors, and no matter how much they are magnified, they lack presence on the big screen (they look as though they would be a sure hit at a five-year-old's birthday party, however)
