Difficult to score since the best parts of this are fantastic (the climax at the bog; Cushing surprisingly getting some good licks in at the mummy; and best of all, Cushing's confrontation w/ the Egyptian guard which, although ultimately siding with western-style entitlement, presents a 3-dimensional "villain" with several valid criticisms against the west), while the worst parts (the didactic & painfully long flashback telling how the mummy came to be) brings the entire film to a crashing halt.

The Mummy is a very silly character, but Hammer does a decent job of making him at least vaguely scary. The shot of him coming out of the swamp for the first time is pretty cool, but unfortunately the scary bits are few and far between, with lots of dry talky sequences making up the bulk of the film. It doesn't help that Cushing plays such an unlikeable character, or that the film's climax revolves around a ridiculous twist involving Yvonne Furneaux.

The mummy itself is great. Every scene with it is wonderfully tense and creepy. The rest of it, though, is rather banal exposition that goes on and on about ancient Egyptian myths.

A rather lackluster Hammer film. It suffers whenever Cushing and Lee aren't sharing screen time. There is far too much dialogue and backstory, and the ending is very abrupt. When it comes to Hammer, check out Horror of Dracula and Curse of Frankenstein if you want quintessential Hammer Horror.

It's finely directed but it hasn't aged well, and the script isn't good; the characters are super underdeveloped and some plot points are undercooked.

The dullest film of the Universal monster cycle remade as the dullest major film of the Hammer horror cycle.

While essentially a back-lot hack job, Hammer's remake of Freund's original is such a thoroughly professional pulpfest that it's fun to watch anyway. Cushing is typically crisp as the tomb-desecrating archaeologist, though Lee has little to do in his limited mummy role.

Loads of fun. Kind of a bad role for Christopher Lee but Yvonne Furneaux is certainly believable as the kinda girl who could stop a monster's rampage.

Drips a slow & painful set-up across an hour, leaving all intrigue & monster mayhem till the last third. It doesn't help that the "My wife is the reincarnation of the Mummy's dead girlfriend!" plot point comes too late in the game, nor that Detective Sceptic isn't much of a sceptic (all it takes to corroborate Cushing's fantastical story is a drunken Irishman). Ultimately, the narrative is laborious, with little flair to carry it, & the tired & obvious mystery angle only pulls it down further.

Might be one of the weakest of the Universal / Hammer remakes. Too many long boring flashbacks that just killed the film's momentum.

Hammer follow-up their Frankenstein and Dracula films with a take on the Mummy. It's a very familiar execution of the basic formula ... Peter Cushing is part of an expedition that finds an Egyptian princess's tomb, and Christopher Lee is the living mummy assigned to protect her tomb. Cushing is great and there are some solid supporting performances. Lee gets the short end here as apart from an extended flashback, he's wrapped in bandages from head to toe for the entire film.

This is certainly my least favourite of the three Hammer movies I've seen, and I'm not particularly interested in seeing more. I wasn't really into The Mummy (1932) either though, so I guess mummy movies aren't really my thing. Especially when The Mummy (1999) is my favourite one I've seen. Anyway, yeah, this was just slow and dry, like I expected. There wasn't even much for Christopher Lee to do. I respect the legacy of Hammer, but their stuff just isn't for me.

The level of ham came close to breaking the scale, but thanks to William Shatner the bar is set pretty high. Also couldn't help thinking "gill man is the mummy?!" If you enjoy corny old horror films you'll probably love this, I know I do.

Lee appears to be playing the titular mummy as a robot. Also, the film just sort of ends abruptly for no real reason. Poorly editted.

Weak Hammer horror that is still better than the 1932 Karloff original.

I'm a hammer lover, so forgive me when I say that this is better than the '32 version. I almost even feel like I've disgraced Karloff's memory by saying that.
