To be honest I thought this was kind of boring. The film is slow the entire time and it is kind of uneventful. I wasn't even really touched by the scenes that were supposed to be emotional, nor did I ever feel inspired. For me this film didn't do anything remarkable and there are more entertaining films out there for sure, including road movies.

"Motorcycle Diaries is a film without a face, a story for those who'd rather idealize their revolutionary figures than truly know them." - Ed Gonzalez

Calling this film episodic inaccurately implies that there are actual episodes to watch in its plodding depiction of the young adventures of the man who would be Che. The title card at the end of the film which explains the life that Guevara would go on to live after the time depicted here only serves as an unkind taunt about how much more interesting those days seem than what the filmmakers just spent two hours and fifteen minutes on.

It is not possible to live the same life if you can conceive the unprocessed sadness, injustice and loneliness that runs in the background of daily life. Those journeys help you to unfold the forgotten or unintentionally disregarded truths. I hope I will still be so bold after three years...

Always loved road movies of any kind and this one has the added interest of detailing some of the early years of Che Guevara, showing us just how some of his opinions and ideals might have been affected. The story moves slow, and it feels a bit uneven in how much it holds your interest. There were stronger points there for sure, such as when they get to the community of lepers, but the two hour runtime is not entirely justified.

Regardless of the viewer’s political stance, the film is beautiful to look at. Motorcycle riders will certainly get into it (bonus points for vintage vehicles). Friendship is emphasized over politics.

Movie is based on Che Guevara's itinerary and its brilliantly adapted to big screens by Jose Rivera. Film also contains beautiful atmosphere, scenery, musical score and so on and on. World needs such a heroes like Che and movie fans such a films like The Motorcycle Diaries. One of best movies released in 2004.

That natives were cast in a film that takes place half a century after the film takes place adds even more weight to a film that is strikingly beautiful to watch and politically challenging to think about.

A necessarily languid movie about the trip that shaped Che Guevara's political beliefs that's a bit too long and a bit too preachy

This is supposed to be a tale of a man transformed by geography, yet it seems to end before the transformation occurs. Alberto and Che make a likable duo, yet we learn little to nothing about them, and their exchanges are limited to small talk and banter. The journey itself is a beautiful one, and the sequences at Machu Picchu are a highlight, but as a movie about people changing and growing, I was left wanting and uninformed.

Great road movie that obviously brings in a lot of baggage (NPI) but also has the storytelling chops to carry it through. Accept it as a kind of a superhero origins story and it's damn entertaining.

Flavorful (if meandering) meditation on Guevara's early days is as unfocused and fancy-free as its protagonists -- this works fine for about an hour, until the plot's wheels start spinning without finding any purchase. Muddled and unconvincing in its character development; second half set in a leper colony is moving in its own right, but can't really muster justification for the man that Guevara would become. Well performed by Bernal and Serna, though both characters remain as elusive cyphers.

An idealistic young man goes on a roadtrip with his friend and becomes politically awakened along the way. Unremarkable stuff which had me hovering over the off button more than once. Of course, the reason why this is so popular is that it's about every young revolutionary's poster boy.

We see a turning point in The Motorcycle Diaries, when Ernesto realizes a revolution cannot be won without guns. It reminded me of Brutus's infamous speech in Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, in which he concludes that there is no positive outcome with Caesar alive. In both works, it is a powerful moment. But it is an artery, and while Brutus stabs at Caesar's - and the play's - heart in its conclusion, The Motorcycle Diaries misses.

The film does tend to get a little preachy and forward at times with its political ideology. That is definitely the biggest complaint, however. It's a stunning achievement. Gorgeous cinematography. Incredible casting. The two main roles are fantastic. The story is as magnanimous as the journey that it entails. Well worth a viewing.

Interesting and fairly non political look at a young Ernesto Guevara and the possible influences in his life which eventually caused him to turn into a revolutionary. There is some great scenic views of South America and the performances are all quite good. However, there's nothing weighty or profound here it's just a slice of someone's life.

Nice story. Although before I watched the film I knew it was about Che Guevara, while watching it, I forgot this fact and so I watched it not knowing really the background. I thought it was excellent, emotional at times, and well acted. The relationship between the two characters was the highlight for me. Great friends yet they still had their differences, but always got over them.

It is a film that can be enjoyed with or without the political context right up until the very end (in fact, some viewers may not really be conscious that it is based on Guevara's life until the epilogue), and which offers enough food for thought in addition to stimulating entertainment to make you want to take a trip with these two young and adventurous young men on more than one occasion.

Screen adaptation of Guevara's "Latìno Amèricana", the diary of his life-changing journey through South America. Guevara obviously is a very controversial figure, but don't let that keep you from watching this film: it takes place during his younger years, when he was still a universally likable young idealist. The movie itself is stunningly beautiful and the acting is very good, especially Gael García Bernal as Ernesto Guevara.
