While watching this I couldn't help but feel like this was marketed for preteen girls and upon looking it up it appears that this was based on a YA novel. The acting and color grade was very reminiscent of the Twilight series which was popular at the time, and interestingly enough I don't seem to be the only person with that opinion.

The narrative lacks the provocative coarseness that characterised period horror- the intertextual nods to Stoker and Le Fanu a quaint touch that desperately assays to assert itself. The eldritch tone struck by Cole is drowned out by the overstylised haemoglushin' which betrays Harron's ties to Kubrick, as well as the film's derivative nature. Even in failing to flood the viewer's adrenaline glands, the Moth Diaries is remarkable only in how prosaic and formulaic it remains.

Apart Scott Speedman does not worth anything. He does not appear that much by the way.

Mary Harron is an interesting director: I loved American Psycho but her other films haven't really impressed me. This is also a mixed bag: marketed as teen horror (to cash on Twilight Saga?), it's closer to a drama / coming-of-age story with (possibly) supernatural elements. Biggest problem is the pacing: the film rushes towards ending when it could have gained from building the mood. With a length of 80 mins you wonder what was left on cutting room floor. Last shot with M&tD is perfect though.

Jeden z filmow maratonu hallowen. Doszukiwalbym sie ukrytego przekazu, choc bylem zmieszany. Peter moglby obejrzec, ale nie wiem czy to jednak szkoda czasu.

Bzdurne, przez wiekszosc czasu meczace filmidlo. Kilka pozytywow tonie w zalewie szlamu. Tym wiekszy zawod i bol po seansie.
