Why do all the mad scientists in these cheapies have a captive killer gorilla?

Considering this was handled by low-class director Sam Newfield, I was impressed by some aspects of this horror film. Don't get me wrong, it's as super cheapy, but I liked J. Carrol Naish creepy character and they actually did a good job with the make-up of the sick Ralph Morgan. Let's just say The Monster Maker (1944) was better than expected, though that's setting a very low bar.

Stupid and bad but not without slight camp value. Emphasis on slight.

This is an authentically creepy flick. Pretty sick for its time.

Kind of a novel premise buuut, it's a very dumb film.
