Nick Hart (Keith Carradine) is a struggling American artist who lives amongst the expatriate community in 1920s Paris. He becomes involved in a plot by wealthy art patroness Nathalie de Ville (Geraldine Chaplin) to forge three paintings. This leads to several run-ins with American rubber magnate Bertram Stone (John Lone), who happens to be married to Hart's ex-wife Rachel (Linda Fiorentino) (imdb)

A strange, engrossing, slightly Altman-esque rumination on art (or rather people's perception of it) set in 1920ies Paris. Exquisite cast, thoughful stylization, moments of drolly unexpected comedy (much wittier than anything Woody did with the same setting), and Linda Fiorentinos breasts (I know, I usually say "tits" but after watching this I'm feeling sophisticated like a motherfucker).

Enjoyable, if a little slight. Carradine is good but typifies the sort of passionless and cool-tempered approach of the film, strangely contrasted against the 'bad guy' who exudes passion but only for the monetary value of art. I think a bit of passion, or just energy, even a little bit of intensity is what this movie needs.

It's practically the same movie as Trouble In Mind, except set in 1920s Paris. And i like it even more. Rudolph's film-making is as loveable as it is endearingly imperfect.
