Pretty entertaining, probably because the filmmakers can't resist shoving multiple jungle dangers into every action scene, their foley guy drank way too much coffee, and they keep combining miniatures or fake killer animals with rear projection. They also included some of the most bizarre "romantic" scenes I've ever seen. Definitely not a good movie, but the right kind of awful movie.

Hong Kong tried its hand at making a King Kong inspired Kaiju film add a couple of dashes of Italian jungle horror, with some Sheena thrown in and you have this. This isn't a good movie nor did I expect it to be but I was hoping for it to be fun and in a few spots it was but overall this was more of a waste of time than anything else.

A laughable ripoff of King Kong, it's got some low-budget charm and is a fun watch with friends.

"The Mighty Peking Man" offers a twist on the King Kong tale, introducing a blonde Tarzan-esque female lead with a knack for taming wild creatures. The narrative pivots to a melodramatic romance between the woman and the beast, with the true villain being a money-hungry promoter. While the film leans on special effects like models and gorilla costumes, it remains engaging.

A cash-in on Godzilla, but starring a giant ape it actually owes more to King Kong. With for some reason a female blonde Tarzan thrown in, (well I can understand how that would have increased the box office even more.) This is movie I would like to like even more, cause it has such a fun premise. But the execution just is too poor for me to do so. The cheapness I can look behind, but all aspects of this are just far below par. It does have a few amusing moments, but most of this fails to deliver

The great thing about bad Shaw Brothers movies is that the pacing is so frantic, it will hardly be dull, no matter what happens.

that "love montage" was the best part. :D especially the soundtrack to that.

Wanna be B-movie though it lacked the potential for reviewing.

Cheesy King Kong ripoff with some camp value.

It's so bad that it's pretty funny, but not funny enough that I would ever watch it again.

Holy God, this was horriffically bad. Beyond camp. And the funny thing is, the was the most expensive movie ever made in China at the time. And for a movie that came out in the late 70's, it had the production values of a saturday afternoon TV movie left over from the 50's. It's THAT bad.

Shaw Bros does King Kong. There's plenty of miniatures, clumsy FX, goofy animal shots and scantily clad Evelyne Kraft. Sadly, the characters are not interesting and the film doesn't find a good balance. Although there are some gory/sleazy shots, it feels like director Meng-Hua Ho is holding back. It ends up being one of those films that sounds much better than it is. To my surprise, I liked the cheesy jungle set first half better than the Kaiju style latter part which started to wear me out.
