Wallace Beery almost spent the rest of his career trying to chase the success he had with young Jackie Cooper in The Champ (1931), trying the formula several times with various child actors. In The Mighty McGurk (1947) it's 10-year-old Dean Stockwell's turn to be the side kick of this loudmouth. And the chemistry between them worked fine. Made for a enjoyable movie, but lacked perhaps the emotional punch of some of his other attempts, even if there's serious effort at recreating the same charm.
