Ellen McNulty sells her New Jersey hamburger stand and heads west to pay a surprise visit to her son and his new bride. When Ellen arrives, her daughter-in-law mistakes her for the maid she has hired for a big party her husband is throwing to impress his boss. Rather than cause any embarrassment, Ellen goes along with the charade, which leads to many complications. (imdb)

Mitchell Leisen's direction is elegant, Charles Brackett's screenplay is witty, Gene Tierney is gorgeous, John Lund (as usual) is better than he is given credit for, Miriam Hopkins is super-bitchy, and Thelma Ritter gives what is arguably the best performance of her career. There's more, but that's enough. How much more do you want?

The male-lead is such an awful person that he drags down everything around him.

O Quarto Mandamento estreava há 70 anos nos EUA. Esse filme deveria ter sido feito dez anos antes, me parece estranho esse tipo de filme nos anos 50, embora o ótimo elenco mantenha o interesse. No youtube ( https://youtu.be/pmWkR77uxTM )

Light and delightful mother/mother-in-law comedy where Gene Tierney marries stranger John Lund and their respective mothers gets involved in different ways. Miriam Hopkins as a meddling mother and Thelma Ritter as the undercover mother, posing as the maid. For the most part it's Thelma Ritter's movie, but Gene Tierney certainly lights up the screen. Makes the experience fun and beautiful.
