The Masked Saint

Low budget but well written and mostly well acted, Amazing that this was based on a true story. (though the wrestling scenes were not)

not really into all the heavy religious thing but it is what it is. the wrestling is pretty cool. also the Dexterish parts. mostly watched it because Roddy is in it

Oh boy, was this ever a bad idea. A religious pro-wrestling movie! Tells about a former masked wrestler turned pastor in a poor part of town, when his church is struggling he puts on his mask and beats bad people up and transforms his parish to a preaching district. I only watched this because it was the last film Roddy Piper did before he passed away. I wish I hadn't now, and simply let the good memories I have of him live on. This is definitely not the last image I'd want to remember him by.

Unfortunately it falls victim to the same problems that many faith-based films do; storytelling is secondary to the sermons and lessons, to the point that it's mostly cheesy and stupid, no finesse. And the way pro-wrestling is treated is especially lame. When he says he's been wearing a mask in the ring and people in his church got offended I cringed. Chris solves all problems with kindness so there's no real drama. Can't hate on the message, but an uplifting scene or two can't save this farce.
