Marvel's worst movie. I have never seen a movie edited this poorly, and that was easily the worst villain and overall story of any film they have released so far. Genuinely very embarrassing that this movie was released. Astonishingly, I did find it mostly entertaining. The cast is incredibly charismatic, and the runtime was a perfect length.

A weak villain and rushed conclusion and production drag it down from being truly great. It isn’t free of some superhero tropes and it isn’t going to convert anyone to the genre. But it IS a lot of fun. I actually liked the three leads and think this is the most interesting they’ve been. I thought all of their arcs and chemistry was very believable. The action and swapping-places gimmick was actually quite fun too. Not a stronger MCU movie, but it’s really not that bad. Kamala Khan rules.

Has all the MCU stuff that’s annoyed me for years—prerequisite viewing homework, thin characterizations, convoluted plotting—along with all the humor and charm and zip that helps me look past those flaws. Plus it’s under two hours like comic book movies used to be, and I certainly can’t argue with that.

“The Marvels” blends Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Monica Rambeau in a visually impressive, yet convoluted tale. Strong chemistry among leads and promising setups for the MCU’s future shine, but a complex plot and underdeveloped villain detract. A reliance on Disney Plus shows may alienate some viewers. Overall, a must-watch for MCU enthusiasts.

The post-credit alone is worth some points. But even without that, I don't really see the problem. Villain is not great but not the worst either. Danvers actually has a personality now, and I never hated her or Brie. Ms. Marvel is delightful. Not entirely sold on Monica but the performance is fine, and the chemistry/interplay between the three works. The switching dynamic is fun and leads to a decent reason why Danvers can't 1v1 the villain. Love the commitment to the cat bit. Some heart too.

I had low expectations due to all of the delays and rumors of negative audience receptions in pre-screenings, but it wasn't that bad. It didn't really excel in any way, either, though. It feels like maybe it was edited down to be as safe (and short) as possible, to be a serviceable movie, which left it feeling just sort of 'okay' but forgettable - which is unfortunate, because I think it has three interesting characters.

Much better than I expected. The leads work very well together and the fight choreography is more original and interesting than usual. A good watch, and one of the strongest of the Phase 5 MCU films.

I have a lot of thoughts about this film and not a lot of space so I'll just conclude that the movie was better than I expected and, overall, pretty entertaining. But it did have a bunch of issues, some of which were probably only issues to me personally. The biggest problem was, that the movie was all over the place in different levels. It not only felt like a movie that's been rewritten/reshot/reorganized but it even felt like it had elements from two completely different movies.

Towards the bottom of the MCU for me, but with some genuinely good parts sprinkled in. The villain and story are among the weakest, and the incredibly rushed pacing doesn’t help. The slower character moments it does have are actually pretty good. The leads are great, as is their chemistry, and fun gimmick. Flerken are just as fun as before. And the mid credits scene is easily one of the most interesting we’ve had. Hoping they take their time with the next installments. Sometimes less is more.

One of the Most Boring Villian Ever . Jokes that dont fit . Bad Acting and most of the Props and costumes looked so cheap . the movie was so weak it didnt even follow its own rules most of the time . I Honestly kinda liked the 3 main Characters and their dynamic most of the time but sometimes it was way to childish . could have been worse !

The Marvels should have been a 6-episode mini-series. Maybe this story should have been used in the second season of Ms Marvel. In this way, more time could be devoted to the three leading characters without rushing. Also, perhaps there could have been different options regarding the villain. Because the villain was truly awful. Yes, there were moments where I laughed a lot, and yes, I loved the cats, but that's it. The Marvels had to be better than this. Another disappointment from the MCU.

Infamous now as probably the lowest-grossing Marvel film, and... it's alright. Not too special, but not too bad either. Middle of the road. More Marvel paying for previous sins than anything else. The singing planet was pretty weird, though, could have been done better.

I was hoping to rate this higher, especially after having enjoyed Ms. Marvel quite a bit (and she's great in this too), but unfortunately the film feels very messy and weirdly edited. The villain is completely forgettable, but that hasn't kept other MCU movies from being a romp. This one ends up a disappointment overall, but with enough enjoyable bits and pieces and a snappy pace so that it goes down easily enough.

Maybe the best AND worst thing I could say about this is that it's light, fluffy, fun MCU fare, that I'll barely remember in a week's time. Since I don't watch any of the 900 MCU TV shows, I don't have the background to really care much for Monica or Kamala, and I gotta be honest, Kamala as a character AND performance leaves me at least ambivalent, if not outright disinterested. Plot holes don't tend to bother me in MCU movies, but there are a few here that I find grating. I dunno. It's fine.

Led to believe I'd hate it, I ended up adoring it. Stripping the Marvel movie formula of its dependence on sarcasm and snarky quips, we are left with joyous fun, dazzling spectacle and a bright universe full of places and people to visit. Fun, silly, and family-friendly much in the same way that Ant-Man 3 was.

Well I liked it. A chunk of why that is Iman Vellani, please don't have her go dark and moody, she is a ray of joy. I do wish the villain had been developed more, there was a real chance to look at hero responsibility. The film occasionally feels like it has the editors post-its still on it. (This scene is sad, this scene explains a thing, and so on). But I enjoyed it.

Amusing premise, but they didn't run with it far enough. Uninteresting villain. You can tell this movie suffered from production issues. It's not bad though, it's a breath of fresh air in the MCU, and the entertainment factor is there. It'll probably end up being one of the most underrated marvels due to how few people seem to care for it. Very exciting mid-credits scene that overshadows the whole movie.

W3E1P0S1V1M1A1R1. They overdeveloped the Carol/Monica drama, underdeveloped (to the point of literally never explaining it ) the entire Kree/Hala backstory, and randomly abandoned the cool switching gimmick at the weirdest point. Fun moments in between.

I thought this movie was a ton of fun. Ever since I had heard the title of this movie announced, and the concept that it would be joining these characters, I was very excited for this one, and I think this movie lived up to exactly what I wanted from it. I honestly don't have much I can think of as a negative with this one. The only reason my score isn't higher is because while I loved it, there wasn't much that stood out as brilliant or a surprise, to give it that slight push higher.

Absolutely incomprehensible, both visually (maybe the most unintelligible action sequences in the MCU) and story-wise (I couldn't possibly explain almost a single plot-related thing that happens in this movie). Reeks of flop-sweat, and feels incredibly long for a movie that's basically only an hour-and-a-half. That said, I admired the flightier feel, smaller scale, and 60s b-movie vibes, and there's one genuinely delightful sequence late in the film involving an unorthodox escape method.

I don't think this film is particularly better or worse than your average MCU film. It has your typical advantages ... fun character interactions, cool moments. It has your typical disadvantages ... a weak villain, a thin plot, uninteresting action sequences. (Although I must say, the character swapping gimmick in this improves the action quite a bit.) Here's my thesis: What makes an MCU film better or worse has almost nothing to do with it's content and a lot to do with it's context.

It put in a surprising amount of work to make Captain Marvel a more interesting character, but imo Ms. Marvel is easily the most entertaining character on screen most of the time. It's just a shame that the movie really banks on you having seen Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel in their entirety, because if not, some major plot elements may very well be lost on you

Huge misfire. Really one of the worst MCU entries. Too convoluted for a 105min space opera -- maybe I should've watched Ms. Marvel before, but just fuck it --, despite that cool scene with little cats, Goose's kids, swallowing everyone to facilitate an evacuation from a wrecking ship. That planet with Bollywood singing and dancing people was nice, too, if a little too digressive in an already all over film. Hope DaCosta can pull off a solid next project, because I liked that Candyman of hers.

I really want to like this movie like I liked the other Captain Marvel movie, the avengers, etc. But there is a lot of weird spiritual darkness that's hardly well covered throughout the movie that leaves me not feeling very good. I didn’t watch ANY of the TV shows leading into this so I was in full idfk mode the whole time. Felt more like a Ms Marvel movie with Capt Marvel as mentor to the protagonist than a Capt Marvel sequel, and subsequently pretty much felt like a Disney Plus production. Spent the whole movie wanting to sit the writers down and shout STOP MAKING BAD JOKES at them; I do like Whedon but man the MCU reworking its whole tone around his Avengers 1 sense of humor was some monkeys paw type shit

First and third acts are miserable, but there is some fun to be had for about 20 minutes in the middle when the leads are just hanging out (and the musical diversion is perfectly silly, lighten up folks). I feel sorry for the creatives and actors, they’re doing what they can with what they’ve been given but, as with Secret Invasion, this has clearly been heavily meddled with by panicking executives in damage control mode. Somebody push the reset button

The cast just about drag this through its numerous problems. It has a horrible screenplay that’s exposed more so by the choppy editing that completely hobbles the story and character development. The villain (a completely inert non-entity & comfortably the MCU’s weakest in terms of character and performance) is a good example of Marvels writing and character creation at its most aimless and corporately dull. That said, I liked enough about it to be contentedly entertained for a couple hours.

Hilariously bad and I'm tired of pretending Marvel isn't bottom of the barrel at this point when it comes to Hollywood (didn't use to be, but it sure is now). The script, the plot, the cinematography, the performances (besides that of Iman Vellani), the pacing, the editing... just ROTTED. The only halfway "decent" part of the movie is the cat sequence, if we're being generous. Props to them for using Double Bubble Trouble by M.i.A. though.

My recent dud streak helped me enjoy The Marvels, but it remains another mediocre entry in a dwindling MCU primarily due to DaCosta's poor screenplay & direction. Vellani & Parris are good, but Larson seems out of place in her own film. The film starts with a previously on Captain Marvel, has an unnecessary song-&-dance planet, & nonsense with cats...all in the shortest MCU film to date. The 1st act is good, but the off screen world-building & illogical fight scenes, leave much to be desired.

Holy crap the music in this movie is extremely annoying. There might have been a fun movie in here somewhere but this felt like a cheap, lesser episode of Doctor Who. I'm not sure if I liked Carol Danvers more or less here than in the first movie but Monica Rambeau seemed like a mildly interesting side character and Kamala Khan seemed to have stepped out of a Disney Channel show/movie and was miscast here. As someone who walked into this with an edible, The Marvels is one of the worst super hero movies I’ve ever seen. Narratively, it feels like a movie that got butchered down and dragged into multiple different directions. The concept of some of these subplots is actually insane if you think about them enough, and the antagonist’s motivations are laughably weak. This movie in some cases feels like two or three movies. On an edible though, this is funny as fuck. In the right bad good way.

Basic bad guy story of Miss Marvel destroyed her planet or whatever & she seeks revenge. It was really awful. Pacing issues. At 1 point they were doing a sing along. 1 cut scene only & usually there is 2. They closed the rift black girl goes into the X-Men World. I mean, it was "fine". Decent action and an interesting story line. But the character connection between the Marvels was weak at best and took away from much of the story. Kamala is easily the weakest link here but Monica also added very little value here. It is a forced partnership that fails.

A perfectly fine film to watch on a weekday night. Its fun and entertaining and does many of the Marvel things right. However, it is not groundbreaking or particularly special in any way. I think the worst part is I actually liked Captain Marvel AND Ms Marvel and I was actually EXCITED for this. I've watched everything MCU except Secret Invasion. I feel like someone just shot my dog. Larson is good. Iman Vellani is delightful. There's some fun here for very fleeting moments. Otherwise it's a fast-paced slog that made time pass weirdly. It got slaughtered in the edit bay. It's so... empty and useless. And the forced ties to Disney+ make it sometimes inscrutable. It hurts.

As a team-up movie, the chemistry between the three characters may have been built up a bit, but the cathartic outcome of the built-up chemistry (say, action scenes) is nowhere to be seen. Furthermore, starting from the musical planet scene, the plot feels underdeveloped and decisions made by characters are so hard to understand that it makes me wonder if the four main chracters (three heroes and one villain) may be a bit, uhm, ... idiotic.

Monica and Carol feel like copies of the same character. They’re jaded cynics who foil Kamala's enthusiasm. The most irritating performance is by Ashton, who melodramatically breathes all her lines as if she were trying to fog up an invisible window in front of her face, just so she could wipe off the stain of shame from appearing in this movie. DaCosta's inexperience is evident. Attempts to blend everything from sci-fi action, to musical comedy, and family drama. End result is a mix of nothing.
