Brian Desmond Hurst with a murder twist. But like most of Hurst's movies, they're good, but fail to reach the peaks. Shame that's the case here too, because here all the ingredients was available to make this a classic murder tale. At some level it was, but with a little extra care, The Mark of Cain (1947) could have been so much more.
