Ted Levine is the least sympathetic lead ever. He always looks like he's either preparing to or just finished murdering someone. Here he inexplicably teams up with a LARPing wizard to solve the mystery of a haunted laundry press. Can you imagine if this press was in the basement of Graveyard Shift? CAN YOU IMAGINE THAT? God, I enjoy some terrible movies.

Sometimes mangled, more often effective frightfest. While loose in the logic department, old horror hand Hooper and his roving camera succeed in keeping things creepy most of the way. This was partially lensed in South Africa, which accounts for the strange outbreak of Brit-flavored accents among the on-screen Maine natives. Final score: Mangler 6, Townsfolk 1.

The concept sounds ridiculous & surely this only got greenlit bc it's based on King. But if you can accept the premise & equally over-the-top - but never boring - characters (Hooper decided to steer into the skid) this can be B-movie fun. The designs of the machine & Gartley are perfectly monstrous & creepy; the cinematography's appropriately dark; & even though viewers will suspect evil even faster than the hero's pal, the details of, & how far the conspiracy goes is compelling enough.

There are a lot of fun bits, but overall the film isn't very good.

I used to live across the street from the building that inspired Steven King to write the short story this movie was based on. I would stare at it as I washed dishes. Robert Englund puts Theseus's paradox to the test as he walks around as almost more machine then the mangler. Instead of being a "so bad it's good" movie, this is a "so bad its okay" movie.

There is really no point defending this stupid, stupid movie about a large stationary laundry machine that is possessed by a demon, but it does have some surprisingly good imagery and it isn't ever too boring.

So many things are in that movie that could be good, but then it ends up being terrible. It doesn't help that two important characters are both played by thin, brunette 18-year old unknowns that are indistinguishable.

Estreava há 25 anos nos EUA. O que salva este filme da mais completa mediocridade é o Daniel Matmor e o viés alegórico anticapitalista. BlurayRip RARBG.

I like this movie because, somehow, it's not a total disaster. It should be. But it isn't. Hooper really was a competent director. Pity he only got the worst scripts.

The wrong kind of campy. Surprisingly good camera stuff from Hooper on such a limp project.

There's some nice camera work here from Hooper. The fluid movement through the factory looks nice. Also, Englund hamming it up with a fake eye will never not be entertaining. But like a lot of later Hooper it's just kind of boring. Anything outside the factory is a drag and the kills aren't that great. Also, this might just be the stupidest idea for a film ever.

Everything in the factory is hysterical. Everything outside of the factory is lame. Robert Englund needed to be in every scene.

Of all the bad King short stories brought to life, this one seems like the easiest choice to not make. Here we are though. Tobe Hooper continued to erode his clout as a decent horror filmmaker and presents us this turd.

Ted Levine and Robert Englund were alright in this horrible movie. Stephen King has got to find better people to write movies from his stories.

Another in a long line of BAD Stephen King adaptations. This movie isn't just bad though, it's atrocious.
