Charles Laughton made a lot of memorable characters during his career, but during the war years there were a few misses. The Tuttles of Tahiti & Stand by for Action were very average, and you can add The Man from Down Under (1943) to that list of disappointments. This one felt difficult to get a grip of. The story was all over the place and I didn't know what to think or what it was actually focusing on. I mean, Laughton is okay, but this wasn't really coming together as a story to care about.
