Too many cliche's on this film. Not the best from Depp. On other hand Christina Ricci was very good. You might pass this film and won't loose anything.

It's not bad but it is merely a collection of clichés with no personality: girl is separated from her family, gets bullied, remains working-class despite the temptations, hooks up with the laconic, 'cool' outsider, reunites with her dying father to sing him 'their song'. In the meantime the WWII manhunt takes place but who cares as long as a) gypsy Depp looks good, b) Blanchett and Turturro say things in stupid accents and c) someone sings that ditty every time an 'important' scene comes round.

I like the majority of the actors in this drama, but there's too much ado about nothing. Story serves no-one.

Christina is great to look at, & she can even act, & so can the other people in this movie trying to make the most of something almost nonexistent. More a series of brooding pretty vignettes that try to be important & emotional than a movie. Some of the drama is so bad it makes me laugh.
