The problem with most of the Polish mermaid musicals I've seen is that they're only ever this one.

Wow, this was a much crazier film than I anticipated. It's like live action The Little Mermaid x2 meets sleazy Moulin Rouge, via Raw. Set in an 80s Polish striptease club and featuring a number of cool electro musical numbers, the story turns out to have a cute romance in it and a little bit of a message too. It may be cobbled together from various mythic or well-trodden stories, but it's a visual and auditory delight and the few dull filler scenes in there are easily forgotten. Refreshing.

Actually a catchy & original idea where mermaids' story is narrated with both a grotesque and carnavalesque attitude of realism and musical fairytale. The central idea is the inconsistency & nonreliability of human beings & their indifference towards nature (the boy uses the blonde mermaid for his personal succes and leaves her when he gets what he wants). That said, very loose & weak dramatic structure w/o any credible plot or acting. Could be way better. Nevertheless, not an unpromising debut.

Under the sea. Under the sea. There will be no crustaceans, just eating dudes' faces. Under the sea! Couldn't tell if the songs were serious or just Polish.

Damn, that ending is perfect and touching. Some of the musical numbers didn't hit for me and got in the way of better storytelling, but as it went on I felt they got better. But you come to a movie like this because it's so unapologetically original and weird; a musical horror romance about mermaids where there's a glee to how fantastic it all is while never shying away from the disgusting aspects. Maybe not all people will like it, but it's refreshing cinema.

While it is undeniably flawed in places, this Polish-mermaid-horror-musical hooked me from its opening moments, and kept me absolutely enthralled. In keeping with a filmed musical, the story and its characters embrace the fantastic as real - there is a grotesquerie in this beauty, and some true magic beyond the gaudy neon artifice and arid city streets. We could all use some of both. I'd watch it again in a heartbeat.

Abominable negligence can't be justified by being grotesque and absurdist. For example, half of the cast sings out of tune and nobody can dance in that musical; what excuse do they have for these? Has many in common with the worst of modern Russian cinematography.

A tragi-comic musical, telling a fish-out-of-water tale of two vampire mermaids discovering love in a 1980s Polish burlesque club. What's not to love? As with many musicals the plot is a weak point, but the stylish visuals and cracking electro soundtrack gloss over it nicely. It won't be everyone's cup of tea but there's nothing else like it and for that alone it should be applauded.

The movie starts off great and the music and soundtrack are awesome. However my interest started to wander after about 30-40 minutes and while it never got boring it certainly went down hill in the second half.

It's a very weird rock concert/mermaid fairy tale/horror movie combo - raw and unpolished by never boring, always stylish, and very engaging. It's better than any movie with its premise had to be - it has strong characters, more interesting musical numbers, and great special effects.

Horror no Halloween 2024 dia 22: Horror Aquático. Quando o filme começa com I Feel Love imaginei que seria um grande filme, mas é triste ver que seu começo também é seu pico, a excelência não se mantém, embora seja uma boa releitura de A Pequena Sereia. Enjoyable but flawed. It was great to see this in the cinema, with an enthusiastic, and unsuspecting, audience. Some problems exist in the sound mixing and editing, and, although sure it's a musical, but there are many moments where it begins to feel like an extended music video. The music itself is variable. Worth a watch.

The music parts were just... not that good. Very much a mish-mash of things, sometimes with some great shots but not the kind of music I would listen to (except for the first song of the movie). Also, I don't like musicals to begin with and I'd like the songs to contribute to the story. The story could have been better if there'd just been more dialogue between the characters and less musical parts, but overall the movie just felt quite thin. Loved the lore, but this one just wasn't for me.

Do you enjoy horrible songs? A plot that makes little to no sense? Secondary characters that serve no purpose whatsoever? Watching people smoke non stop? Then this is your movie. 50/100 for the little gore that there is and for the beautiful brunette girl

One of the strangest movies I made it through. A musical fantasy horror from Poland about two mermaid sisters who fall in love with the same man. I watched in parts.

Not a musical but a series of music videos interspersed with some at times interesting commentary on sexual desire and self-identify (more broadly what it means to be human and what it means to want to be human). These themes could have been more powerfully explored through a more sinister and less playful realisation of the story. Michalina Olszańska as Golden seems to be channeling Isabelle Adjani as Anna/Helen in 'Possession'. For a 1960's jazz version of this film then see 'Night Tide'.

The "love triangle" description here is not how it's described at imdb and is absolutely not what happens in this film! Hopefully it will be updated and then this comment will make no sense.

I almost gave up midway through the film, but story picked up intellectually during the latter half. The relationship between the sirens was the most intriguing aspect of the movie. Other than that, aimlessly wondering plot, surface level characters, gory imagery sprinkled here and there, some good effect work but mostly visually bleak Soviet arthouse. Music was terrible one-note gravelly wailing. Would not rewatch.

Featuring fine performances & enjoyable musical sequences with some pretty eye-catching visuals to boot, it's a strange & surreal drama-horror-romance-arthouse-musical-mashup that conforms to no typical genre conventions & doesn't really follow any rules- which can be both a good & bad thing. Filled with odd scenes that don't quite go together, a disjointed & sometimes confusing plot, & a very inconsistent tone on top of inconsistent characters, it's an interesting ride & might be worth a watch.

The Lure's colourful and sparkling rendition of the Little Mermaid story presents a twisted world full of alien imagery and an otherworldly feeling, instilling a unease in the viewer, but not failing to mesmerise either. The effect was a hit or miss subjectively speaking, albeit the film begs for a re-watch. The story is as great as always: betraying one's nature for the want of something different no matter how strong the urge or feeling behind it always has negative consequences.

A postmodern appraisal of contemporary and historical kitsch, from fairy tales and disco to high-budget music videos and B-movie horror. What hits hardest for me is the satire of pop stardom, with its endless displays of nymph-like sexuality, glossy songs, and over-the-top performances, and the music itself is great. The concept stretches into shallow pastiche over time, but it's nonetheless a unique statement on the addictive and engaging aspects of pop culture.

The director is certainly skilled & has an impressive gift for creating some creepy and striking imagery. Fans of the unusual are also likely to appreciate its extreme weirdness, which, thankfully, isn't pretentiously inscrutable. There's a point to all the oddness, unfortunately it's to deliver the eye-rollingly cliched & simplistic message that women are exploited by society and lose their identities to jerky men. It's glib & sophmoric, but since it's feminist, most liberals believe it anyway

The Little Mermaid but the mermaids eat people. The plot and characters get a bit muddled in places but it's got one hell of an aesthetic and the commitment to that makes it a joy to watch

The Lure was a pretty fishy story. In the beginning the musical parts entertained but all in all the 70's rock soundtrack started to irritate. Acting was definitely edgy and suitable for the mood of the story. A bad teeth plot. The bone saw in the operation was nice touch.
