This was pretty average when I watched it as a kid and surprisingly enough, still is.

Cool to see the '60s racing. Benson Fong's Mr. Wu introduction was quite racist. Lead character was a moron. Herbie trying to commit suicide was ridiculous. Fun for a kids' movie but a bit long for that. Fav scenes: drunk Herbie or the aforementioned suicidal Herbie.

I loved Herbie as a kid, so I have to give it a good score.

107 minutes. 107 minutes?? 107 minutes! I didn't grow up watching this and neither will my son.

A movie without technical charms, but with an innocent mood, that like, from kid up to adults. Classic.

I used to watch it a lot as a kid. It's great family fun. The huge cross country car race at the end is particularly entertaining.

Iconic in its own way, but even as a kid I never really liked Herbie.

I have always liked Herbie since I was a little kid and it still makes a good film in hindsight.

60s to the max! Some say it dates the film. I say no! It was filmed in the 60s and so has a 60s mindset. The driving scenes are amazingly well done and even the lead actors each bring their own special quirk to the film. Herbie himself is the glue holding it together, making a prop the main character was risky and it paid off.

Simplistic "fun for kids" movie about a car with its own personality. When I was little, I wanted a car like this (or, better, one like KITT), but now, having had a few cars that all had -- ahem, quirks -- I'm not so sure that was ever a good idea. And yet, here come the self-driving cars. Hope they have someone to bail them out when they consider rolling off the SF bridge like Herbie.

Surprisingly fun. It’s possible that I’ve only seen the sequels as a kid as I couldn't remember a thing about it. Herbie is sympathetic and David Tomlinson is delightfully evil as the antagonist, who stops at nothing to get rid of Herbie. Rest of the cast is fine as well. The film is not as outdated as one might assume and It also works as a time-capsule as it was released in '68 and takes place in hippie era San Francisco. The race sequences are fun and not as over the top as in later films.
