Is this the JP where the black girl kicks a dinosaur in the face with the power of GYMNASTICS? Or is that the third one? Both suck tremendously, so the point is moot.

My usual base criticism of Spielberg is that he makes products, not films. It's not fair at all. That he despises rough edges doesn't make him any less of an artist than, say, John Carpenter or Robert Altman. Of course, weak Taco Bell collector's cup crap like JP2 does nothing to redeem his ouvre.

Just rewatched, and I find I’ve developed more fondness for it over time. When it came out it certainly felt like lesser Spielberg, but near 25 years later and judged against his filmography from ‘97 to today, it’s solidly 50th percentile Spielberg. A second rate cash-in compared to the original, of course. But some very well-done sequences - Julianne Moore on the glass, T-Rex roaring at the San Diego skyline, raptors overhead through the brush, etc. Cool score too.

Points for trying something different than the first, but Moore's character is just the worst. It also feels a lot longer than two hours. Though Goldblum is good and the trailer scene is great, there are a lot of problems that drag it down.

"The Lost World" is the much hyped special effects sequel to Spielberg's "other" dinosaur movie, "Jurassic Park". Like its immensely popular predecessor, "The Lost World" is a film about a crazy scientific experiment gone awry, but with a politically-correct 1990's twist. Capitalistic, big business greed is the villain and the whole reason why such an honorable experiment by animal-loving noblemen has such terrible consequences.

It's not actually that bad... but gone are the compelling characters and sense of wonder that made the first movie so special. The action setpieces are entertaining enough but there are so many of them that they have a numbing effect after awhile. Also, as it turns out, Ian Malcolm is nowhere near as entertaining with PTSD.

Everyone always cites the T-Rex exploding out of the ship's hold as the worst part of this movie because it doesn't make any fucking sense. Seeing as that's the only part I actually remember, I would argue that it's the best part.

It felt much too long. Some segments could be completely cut out or at least shortened (like extremely boring cliff hanging scene). Well at least they learned from mistakes and made third part shorter and action-packed from start to finish. Also 5 bonus points for gymnastic kick, it made me realize that world needs some kung fu vs dinosaurs films.

I'm sure the first book was more interesting than the second one, but The Lost World: Jurassic Park doesn't ever get boring and the story could have been MUCH worse for what it was. Goldblum did fine. Lacks a lot of spirit the first film had, but it's not too bad. I will also admit that there were quite a few flaws and unnecessary scenes though.

Not terrible for a sequel. It doesn't come anywhere near to how awesome the first one is, but still has it's own merits. Goldbloom and Moore are good but no one else really stands out. When they were on the island it was a lot like the first Jurassic Park and was were the film had it's best moments. Too bad about a third of this movie had a lot of off island scenes that were rather lame. The King Kong/Godzilla reference that most of the ending turned out to be was way too cheesy.

For all the movie's flaws, and there are many, it's biggest sin is being the follow-up to Jurassic Park. Disappointing sequels are typically met with crushing resentment, but this movie isn't half as bad as most make it out to be. Unnecessary and stupid, sure, but it's still entertaining. Side-story: One of the most shameful moments of my movie-going life was walking out of Peter Jackson's King Kong and hearing someone unironically say "Man, they ripped off Lost World so badly." .....wow.

While it has a few (few!) legitimately exciting scenes, this sequel is mostly devoid of the charm, character, wonder, or attention to detail from the first film. The "heroes" are unbelievably stupid and/or hypocritical and no reflection is had upon their incredibly poor decisions that are the cause of all the carnage and death. I root for the dinosaurs.

Watching CGI dinosaurs never gets old, the story however isn't really compelling. I enjoyed the comedic family drama which got the whole action started, and there were a few really good scenes. I give it that, but most of it was just not as memorable as the first one. It's still worth watching if you feel you haven't got enough of dinosaurs. More cheese than a stuffed crust pepperoni, and the special effects pale in comparison to the accomplishments of the original. However, more bits of the source material are utilized here. It has some big plot holes & wacky, out of place moments on top of a pretty messy storyline that knock it down a peg, but it also features great performances, great effects & a good few suspenseful scenes & fascinating visuals that are on par with the original in every way. The character of Malcolm is much more dynamic here, the cameos in the beginning are fun, & the San Diego sequence- shoehorned as it feels- is fun. Overall, it's really not terrible & is worth a look.

The Lost World is a good albeit not-as-good-as-the-original follow-up to Jurassic Park. Jeff Goldblum returns as more endearing character but the reason people liked him in the original movie is because he was a bit of an asshole but not enough of one to die in the movie. This time his character is given pathos by having a daughter and a girlfriend stuck on the island. There are still illusions to him being less-than-perfect but it isn't enough. The rest of the casting was great except for Moore

There's an aimlessness to the bafflingly titled "The Lost World: Jurassic Park", a quality from which the film never truly recovers. It's as though everything Spielberg mastered in the first has been scrapped entirely, with dinosaurs shown so frequently that they become little more than distractions, setpieces that linger far beyond their worth (cliff dangling, anyone?), and characters so one-note and thin that not even the irresistible Goldblum is allowed to shine, much less evolve.

There's a couple classic Goldblum quotes early on ("Where you're going is the only place in the world where the geese chase you!") but he doesn't suit a lead role, though he doesn't really end up getting it anyways as we're treated instead to a thin spread of characters we don't really care for who are just running around in a weakly premised sequel-plot (how convenient, another island with dinos) that ends in a King Kong rip-off sequence. Suspenseful at points, but ultimately flat and generic.

Jeff Goldblum reprises the fun role of Ian Malcolm with absolute success, aided by Julianne Moore and Vince Vaughn. The first Jurassic Park presented a novel movie monster and one of the parts it excelled at is portraying them in both an awe-inspiring and terrifying manner. I'm not sure if the same could have been done in Lost World, since the audience has already seen realistic dinosaurs on screen, and the film goes full-on into the CG and generic action direction (which is done well - there's just not as much variety).
