A desert drama about a patrol getting lost out in the sea of sand. For me it took a while before it got interesting, but once it did I loved it. When madness started striking in and the shooting for survival was on. Boris Karloff was fantastic as usual. This time as a bible babbling fool. Victor McLaglen in the lead was on good form too with a fine ensemble to fill the rest of the troupe. So strong casting by John Ford along with capturing the drama out in the heat in a excellent manner.

Pre-Stagecoach classic from John Ford. Karloff is great!

Strong dramatic turn by John Ford. McLaglen is solid as usual, while Karloff impresses as an insane Bible-thumper. The hidden enemy creates a sense of instability throughout, gradually leading the men toward their inevitable end in the desert--death and insanity.

Arguably seminal but irrelevant; a good idea poorly done, and the acting varies wildly in quality, tending toward the negative, with Karloff as a religious fanatic perhaps being the worst offender. Overall, a very weak effort by Ford.

Not terrible or anything, but kind of a snoozer considering the scenario.

Good Ford film with McLaglen very good as the sergeant in charge and Karloff great as a fanatical Christian soldier.

John Ford's early Hollywood rendition of the military 'Last Man Standing' tale - eclipsed by later films such as 'Bataan' and 'Sahara'.
