Hollywood just can't get Dr. Seuss right. Just as much a work of crass commercialism as the Once-ler's harvest of Truffula Trees.

if you're an unfussy 5 year old this is a reasonable film with an eco message. If you're a middle aged man who took his daughter to the cinema one Sunday morning then it's a tad boring.Still I got to contemplate on the essential futility of my existence whilst sat in there so that's something. I suppose.

The original story was a straightforward and compelling call to action, and corporations certainly can't have *that*, so this version has been thoroughly diluted with nonsense. The banter is always there and never funny, the everyday people are portrayed as so vapid that their about-face to goodness is completely unconvincing, the roles of protagonist and antagonist have become hopelessly confused, and the conflict has become about Authenticity(tm), Hollywood's favorite meaningless bugaboo.

A relatively boring movie that beats you over the head with the least subtle environmental message ever. I'm an environmentalist and thought it was over-wrought. I can only imagine how someone who isn't felt during this movie. Zac Efron manages to be the first person I've ever seen over-act in an animated film.

It might sound funny for kids -- and too goofy for grown ups, despite the ironic touch --, but this tale within a tale about a world of fake plastic trees and a boy trying to get the girl by giving her a real tree is designed to be just a colorful ecology class. That's it.

Call me childish or whatever but the Lorax is hella fire. The songs, the character build-up, and everything is better than average. They yassified Once-ler and I oddly remember Dr. Suess making Once-ler's face unknown hinting that anyone could become him. Dr. Suess's version of Once-ler was just greed. For this one, Once-ler needed money for necessities, and *then* he became greedy. 10/10 movie considering it's for children.

It could work for kids for the bright everything and original designs. The present day characters were less interesting, and the forest animals seemed like a failed attempt at making the next Minions. People complaining about the environmentalist message seem to not have realised it was what the movie was all about, so was the previous movie, and the book it was based on. Who watches the 101 Dalmatians and say "there are too many dogs in the movie", seriously?

The opening musical number, Thneedville Song is a-ma-i-zing, but after that it's a descending crescendo. I'm just really not into Dr. Seuss stuff. It's not only because of Illumination, there's just something in the aesthetics and storytelling that has zero appeal to me.

Another movie I love that no one else does. I can't really explain why. I know that it definitely could've handled its message and source material far better. The Onceler's fall happens way too fast (all it takes is a single song) and he realizes his mistake almost right after. The movie also takes a lot of blame off the Onceler and puts it on others, which ends up making him a likable character instead of a neutral entity. Maybe that's why I adore this film even though I really shouldn't.

It has heart and decently attempts to send a message about greed. The voice cast is incredibly talented including Ed Helms, Rob Riggle, Danny Devito and Betty White. It could have planted (pun intended) better seeds to relay the message better but ultimately it chooses to be a fun film instead of a powerful one.

Painful, commercialized reinterpretation of a Dr. Seuss classic that completely misses the point on almost every level. This is one that I think people cut wayyyyy too much slack, although it could have been ruined for me because I got inundated with all the tie-in car commercials and other BS missing-the-point merchandising. There's, like, one or two songs that I solidly remember, but this is just a waste of some actually pretty talented people, and good source material.

The Lorax, then, is in some respects a real thneed of a film. Does anyone need to watch it? No. Would someone's life be markedly better if he did? Of course not. This is not Up. This is not How to Train Your Dragon. The Lorax is competent but not particularly moving or incisive or even hilarious. It's a movie that--unless you really love or loathe its environmental message--doesn't do much more than distract the kiddos for 94 minutes. (pluggedin.com)

As a child I liked the Lorax for its unique tone which seemed desperate, resigned and mysterious only seeing the arm of the man in the window. This movie took all of that out and made it much more light-heart colorful romp that you know is heading towards a happy ending. Looking at it as it's own thing, there are some fun and creative moments that can be enjoyed but the dual narratives & awkward transitions (to be fair there is one excellent one) makes quite a mess.

Not near as bad as I'd been told, but not too hot either. The original animated short film is a cherished relic of my childhood (we used to watch it in school on a film reel and projector, as you should watch anything), and this falls way short of that, by creating a stock plot structure to stretch a very short book out to feature length. No surprise, it's the story-within-a-story that really feels engaging, as it's a vague retelling of the real story of the book. Still, there are a few laughs.

A decent message about the environment, I think. It is handled a bit heavy-handedly as others have said though. I honestly do not remember the book too well, but I thought Danny DeVito fit the character pretty well and I found the movie to be well made overall, even though nothing really stands out or makes this a true achievement for illumination like Despicable Me. It's decent.

Felt more like one big 'stop deforestation' advert than anything. Sure, De Vito was awesome and some parts were quite funny, but it felt a little too preachy. I don't know what the book is like, but the narrative structure was a little weird too. Visuals were pretty good.

If the lesson taught by the characters in the film is heavy-handed, it can be forgiven mostly because it's clearly a movie for young children, and shoot: the source material is pretty heavy-handed too. While I would have preferred something with the subversive message of, say, Yertle the Turtle, I suppose a good love-the-earth message like this certainly has its place. I was nicely (and solitarily) entertained and would buy this for my kids if I had any kids.

There's something to be said for a children's film that extols the virtues of environmental sustainability and vilifies the treachery of corporate greed, of course bearing in mind the excellent source material it's adapted from it's still commendable that such themes are completely unfiltered for the most part. The film's CGI animations highlights the artificiality of the plastic, synthetic walled city perfectly. Let's hope that The Lorax's warnings are heeded in the real world.

I was afraid this movie was going to be overly preachy and have some sort of global warming message and ruin the whole movie but it kept pretty true to the book and focused on saving the trees. I thought the voice acting was really good and the whole cast did well as an ensemble. DeVito has a good grumpy voice for the Lorax so at least he played to his strengths. I wish Taylor Swift would have had a solo song in this. I really enjoyed this film though and plan on buying it eventually. It's fun.

I'm a rational person, and as such I feel no matter what your idealogoly, political or otherwise, environmental messages are a good thing. The Lorax unabashedly sells this message well, but with zero subtlety. It was one of the few Suess books I didn't read as a child, so I can't speak for its adaptation. I can say that the plethora of corporate sponsorships for this film doesn't just undercut its message, it's an about-faced contradiction that makes me question the integrity of those involved.

Bright, colorful, and completely Dr. Seuss---the film may not be great in terms of power and humor, but it's fitfully entertaining with a strong message and occasional dashes of humor. The fact that the movie plays mostly via narration and backstory hinders the immediacy of the plot, and the actual title character has less screen time and presence than seems necessary. But overall, the animation is superb. This film was a marvel to look at.

The Lorax isn't a good film, and isn't worth watching unless you're under the age of, say, ten. Maybe 12. All ages can enjoy the portion of the film that actually tells the story that involves the Lorax, but the parts that surround it are full of cliché, poor or unsuitable voice acting, and tedium. The environmental theme also comes from out of nowhere right at the very end. It looks good, and DeVito brings the titular character to life, but it's not a good movie, adaptation of the book or not.
