Gordon-Levitt is an interesting and impressive actor, and he's very good in this. Jeff Daniels adds some pleasant comic relief, but other than those two I didn't find this to be all that great. The story is pretty basic and predictable, the rest of the characters are cardboard cutouts, and it's not particularly memorable in any other respect besides the two performances. Though it could have been far worse, it's mostly pretty mediocre.

I think that it is a rather overlooked gem. It starts pretty low-key, but then it turns into an intricate but rather free flowing story. The acting is top-notch (special mention to Goode for Gary's naturally menacing bodylanguage). I liked the Checkocian construction of the story and planning with respect to your know weaknesses is a nice story touch. The music is used in a subtle but a highly effective way. Also distant but deep look into the lives of people with disabilities is right on money.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays a slightly slow person. Jeff Daniels plays a blind guy. And once again, Isla Fisher plays a slutty Amy Adams.

Gordon-Levitt carries this film on his back and mostly does a good job with it. However the supporting cast lacks any significant development, to the point that is unclear what several characters' motivations are for participating in such an extreme action (particularly the girl who hooks up with Gordon-Levitt). It's an engaging film overall and worth watching, though could have been better if the pace had been a bit slower, and secondary characters were developed more thoroughly.

A well cast heist movie with a little twist, and plenty of tension. The characters are all interesting, and Jeff Daniels in particular shines as Levitt's blind roommate Lewis. The villains for the most part don't have a ton of depth to them, but Matthew Goode is excellent. For a directorial debut, this is a very impressive effort, and it's shocking that Frank hasn't done another film since.

I'm no doctor but I reckon that if you're suffering from such a wide-ranging and random variety of symptoms following head injuries from a car crash YOU caused, you probably shouldn't be reissued a driving license. And it's this type of paradox - along with the fact you're supposed to be rooting for a lead you're never given a reason to like - that costs The Lookout. The cast are decent and the story fluid, but having seen many similar thrillers before this one just isn't quite worth the time.

A really solid and taut little thriller ably carried by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who I think is arguably the best actor of his generation post-Heath Ledger.

Usually when a good actor plays someone slow or retarded in a movie it means one of two things: the film is going to be laughably (unintentionally) bad, or it's going to draw Oscar nominations like flies on shit. The Lookout does neither, thankfully, and once the film gets going, it plays out like a slow-motion trainwreck (I mean that in a good way) that keeps you glued to your seat.

Gordon-Levitt keeps the authenticity of the story real, perhaps one of the finest individual performances I have seen. The story line made sense and played out, but not with the always ever so looming happy ending. It resolves, and you can feel happy for the characters as it ends. The thing is there issues these characters are facing wont go away, they just learn to face them in the end, and that is really all anyone can do in life. Honestly this film will surprise you with how good it is.

Pretty standard flick. I've seen films much more interesting about heists or memory loss. While it was entertaining, Jeff Daniels was the only actor putting down a good performance. Furthemore the screenplay was mediocre at best, being very predictable at times.

Even with the possible interesting characters I wasn't really sucked into the story. The first part of the movie does illustrates all the tiny problems of getting your life back on track after an accident, but this is in contrast to the heist itself and the cliché characters not enough to shift the entire film to a respectable level.

There's nothing remotely memorable about The Lookout. It's an hour and a half long and I watched it a day ago and I maybe remember two things that happened in it. Some of the shots were well executed, and Gordon-Levitt, as usual, is good, but the movie in and of itself is forgettable at best and is hard to recommend because of it. It's like Memento but a lot worse, so seriously think twice about checking out The Lookout.

I really like Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and he was good in this (so was Jeff Daniels). I feel like this definitely could have been better though. All the stuff with Isla fisher and Chris' ex girlfriend didn't really end up going anywhere, and the bad guys didn't really get developed at all. Still, it's a good movie, and worth checking out for Gordon-Levitt.

(after repeat viewings) Levitt, Goode and Daniels are at the top of their game and even when the film starts to show signs of weakness, it picks itself right up thanks to its excellent script and memorable cast, all of whom lend their characters an air of utmost sincerity. Love this film!

"The Lookout" is a gentler version of "Memento," it held my attention, culminating in a satisfying conclusion that justifies the journey. While it's not a film I'd watch again, it was definitely worth the initial viewing.

Despite a good cast and intriguing premise, this never finds its footing, not helped by the pull-the-rug-out right turn the story takes in the second act. There’s just not enough depth or interest to the characters to make this wobbly genre mash-up work, leaving the actors to mine what they can: Goode is a wonderfully sinister antagonist; Daniels and Fisher have a great informal interrogation scene, but it’s a pity this dynamic never goes anywhere (like many of the film's plot points proper).

Perfectly acceptable neo-noir from Scott Frank, who is better known as a writer of e.g. Out of Sight. This one isn't on that level, but it's a solid directing debut which seems to borrow from e.g. Memento, Fargo and Odds Against Tomorrow. It has some nice scenes and an interesting cast with Gordon-Levitt and Goode early in their film careers, and Daniels before his resurgence due to TV's Newsroom. The ending is very abrupt and feels like a compromise/easy way out considering previous actions.

Maybe a film about this character recovering from his accident and dealing with his guilt would have been alright. It feels cheap just to funnel all that into an excuse for him to help rob a bank. And while this isn't the film's fault, that Levitt's character's name is "Chris Pratt" unfortunately never really stops being funny.

Scott Frank does a good job juggling around some complicated themes, but I think the screenplay peaks during the rising action. After that he makes some... strange choices. The resolution works well, but the actual ending leaves a bad aftertaste. I really like Joseph Gordon-Levitt - I think he's a great actor (and isn't bad on the eyes) - but even he couldn't keep the dialogue sounding natural at times. Jeff Daniels does a great job here too.

Gordon-Levitt's second foray into neo-noir in as many years doesn't score as huge as Brick, but it's still a very well-acted and efficient crime drama. Scott Frank, the man responsible for scripting just about every good Elmore Leonard adaptation out there, knows his way around the genre, and his directorial debut pulses with real danger and suspense. The story could be a bit more well-developed, but Frank keeps things simple and the result is satisfying, if predictable. Worth a look.

The Lookout boasts note-worthy performances from Gordon-Levitt and Mr. Jeff Daniels, but the plot seems less engaging than it wants to be, especially the condition of Levitt's character - a low-rent spawn of Guy Pearce's condition in "Memento." Here's it's not as effective, but the film keeps everything pretty low-key and it moves along at a steady pace so it's an easy recommendation.

I don't really know what I was expecting from this film. I do feel like I was expecting it to be better. Jeff Daniels and Joseph-Gordon-Levitt are both fantastic in this. The story is very good and the dialogue is excellent. With that said I thought the style of the film should've reflected Chris' mental state a bit more. As well you don't find out much about all the bank robbers. Still it's a good film and worth seeing.
