Coogan managed to slip in a Connery impression & someone defineitly said Ah ha! when he walked into a room. The script also managed to use the same Oscar Wilde quote from another one of Coogan's films from the same year. Tamsin Egerton is a hardbody. Coke, women, relationship breakdowns, TLoL is a competent rich man biopic.

The Look of Love is a character study that lacks genuine insight, instead we are shown a conflicted man trapped in a film which has numerous conflictual issues itself. It's however redeemed by the fantastic capturing of the era and a stand out performance by the ever improving Imogen Poots.

It's interesting but I don't feel it gets in the skin of the character enough. The lawsuits filled against the guy seem serious but get swept under the rug. The stuff regarding his daughter keep things rolling and Coogan tries hard.

Seemed like it was trying to be a British Boogie Nights - all-star cast, lavish locations, crowd scenes, drugs and spanning several years. Despite the obvious input of talent and budget, the movie felt less than the sum of its parts, failing to properly weave together its different subplots. At some point it felt like the mistress was written out and the daughter written in, instead of them all occupying the entire film in equal measure. Also, I found the constant TV-star cameos a bit sickly.

Despite spirited supporting roles, good art direction, and nice filmmaking from Winterbottom, this is fatally flawed by Coogan basically phoning in a Steve Coogan impression, dialed down to 3. It's also all pretty slight - none of the troubling complexities of his relationship with his daughter are really explored.

Funny biopic of porn baron Paul Raymond that captures the sleazy nature of his business effectively. Steve Coogan was a superb choice for the lead role.

It was an interesting story, just wasn't done with enough depth for my liking... Coogan and Addison were good, Poots being the highlight simply because she was the most interesting character..

Switf look at the hedonistic life of Paul Raymond, the British porn king and property mogul. Spanning from the 50's to the 90's, the film attemtps to cover too much too quickly to have any real depth in it and makes for a rather shallow biopic.

Great job by Winterbottom and Poots but the story is a bit thing and while Coogan being Coogan is always funny, it doesn't quite cut it in a movie where some acting would've been required.

An interesting biopic of the life of Paul Raymond, and particular his relationship with his daughter. Entertaining enough but not particularly involving.

Berlinale 2013 & bilmiyorum belki de seks, ciplak kadin ve kapitalizmin tepesindeki bir adamin luks dolu yasamini izledigimiz icin kendimi filme kaptirdim. Izlerken sasirtici derece eglendim. Film, bir ahlak, kapitalizm sorgusundan ote tamamen bir karakter calismasi. Iste bu acidan takdir edilesi.

The Look Of Love looked like an interesting, comical and upbeat drama exploring the rise and fall of Paul Raymond. But for all the glitz and glamour this is a film of tragedy. Coogan is well cast but can be too Partridge for his own good sometimes and he looks a little too lethargic here. There are a few laughs and a glimmer of redemption following some really unsettling and twisted events. But ultimately it's hard to enjoy a film when you have no care for such a bunch of unlikeable characters.

When did Steve Coogan become a good actor?

The Look of Love is a biopic that leaves you with a slideshow detailing where some of the portrayed people ended up and a lingering feeling of disappointment. The cast do a good job, though they've been better in other projects. The film lies firmly within Winterbottom's wheelhouse of the mega-rich and ample nudity, neither of which are interesting enough to sustain this film. There are a few good moments of comedy and tragedy, but the film is otherwise mostly superficial.
