The Lives of a Bengal Lancer

This movie is built on values and ideals of a past time.

The difficult father/son relationship Richard Cromwell had with Guy Standing made this a bit more complex then usual. Franchot Tone was there mainly as comic relief, but with a serious tone as it was war. He had the lines and showed his skills as an actor with the part he got. The ending battle was spectacular, but it took a while before this movie got exciting in a action kind of way. A damn good movie where Cooper got to be everything from the mediator, to the clown, to the machine gun hero!

One of the many lads' adventure films of the 1930s (Gunga Din, The Charge of the Light Brigade and The Four Feathers being others) that smugly celebrates British imperialism while romping through exotic locales. The more I see of these movies, the less I appreciate them.
