Lovely dreamy romance, but a bit hollow. Love her or hate her, Katharine Hepburn was different. In a period every Hollywood babe seemed to be cloned a urban wisecracker, Hepburn talked like she were up in the clouds. And that works well here in this movie definitely designed for the gentler sex then the macho public as gypsy Hepburn charms the new minister John Beal despite of the obstacle of small town gossip. This isn't terribly exciting, or emotional, but it does bring a smile.

A training film for all concerned. Hepburn shines through as the most believable and modern character. Written by JM BARRIE (Peter Pan) this is more melodrama than drama. There is also the Shakespearean Morality History about it with Worldweary the policeman providing light comic foil and the voice of the common man. Far too simplistic, slow paced and staged for modern audiences but a glimpse of beginnings.
