Drama, Family/Kids

Morgana, sister of Ursula, almost steals the baby Melody from her parents, Ariel and Eric. To protect Melody, she's told never to enter the ocean, but by her 12th birthday, she's been swimming there for years. She discovers the magic locket that was to be her christening gift, which makes her visible to Morgana. Morgana tempts her by offering her fondest wish, to turn her into a mermaid; however, to remain a mermaid, she'll have to steal the magic trident from King Triton (who, unknown to her, is her grandfather). Meanwhile, all the sea creatures are searching for her.(imdb)

This is some bargain bin-quality Disney right here. Doesn't even qualify as "so bad it's good." Avoid.

The only character to ever demonstrate any discernible intelligence is the villain which makes her the most relatable character in Mind-Bogglingly Stupid Protagonists: The Movie. Of course, she goes completely bonkers for the climax, leaving us with no characters left to care about. Additionally, this has some of the worst writing I've ever heard.

Toothless but children won't mind that and as an adult I found it neither offensive nor even as egregious as expected.

A joke when compared to the original, The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea feels more like a child's attempt at fanfiction than a sequel.

I can say for this movie that it is NOT Ariel's Beginning. That alone gives it a few points. And at least it has Pat Carroll as totally-not-Ursula and the rest of the original cast in still-pretty-good form to lend it some flavor. This is far from the worst Disney direct-to-video sequel... but STILL. Ugh.

Terrible. And the main character isn't even likeable.

What the hell Disney? That's right, let's look at a film that is a classic already for God knows what reason and give it a crappy sequel that reminds us that, yes, the Disney renaissance is long dead.

One of those sequels that nobody was asking for. Not because the original wasn't great, because it was. But the story was told and ended in the first one. There's nothing more to tell, and yet they tried.

The animation and voice acting is more or less competent and I've certainly spent longer 75 minutes, but the plot plays out like fanfiction by an 11-year-old girl and the songs might as well have been written by computer. It's all just so joyless, make-a-buck, and cynical.

I think I know a kid who wants to be a mermaid.(let's hope they don't end up sailing the sea)

Thankfully the straight to video sequels from Disney are a thing of the past.

Melody is a fun character who creates a great conflict for Ariel. The movie completely misses the opportunity to address the fact that she's treating her daughter the same way her father treated her (maybe even worse, honestly). It would've been really cool to see her and Melody butting heads more, watching that divide build. Instead, they pushed Ariel into a secondary role and kept the whole story benign.

"Come on, people, come watch a stupid sequel and bring the money home!" No, thanks.

I can't give a sequel that great a review, but... all in all, it's not that bad. You can't help but think any kid of Ariel's is going to have some questions and a wayward spirit.

They basically just retold the story over again, just with Ursula's sister (who miraculously has the exact same voice) and a bit of role-reversal. One of the worst Disney sequels, and that's saying something.
