Good role for Ed Robinson. It's amazing how he can pull helpless sucker one minute, and the other one look like a vicious mobster. Another run of the mill pre-code comedy, with good acting and directing. Decent fun.

Robinson is great, as usual. The jokes fly and there's some sense in the story, as well.

Good ending involving a comeuppance for the swanky society bad guys, but most of the movie was kind of slow and the romance between EG Robinson and Mary Astor was not developed well.

The days of gangsters and bootlegging is over with the end of prohibition and Edward G. Robinson need to find another life and decides to retire with the fortune he made on his racket. He moves from Chicago to California and tries to enter high-society. And he looks out of place like cat in a dog pound. Yes, he even plays polo! Yes, Bugs the gangster rides a horse and tries to hit a ball. Well, he's doing it to hit on a skirt. A humorous take on gangster life and Robinson is great as always.

A fairly amusing farce, despite the fact that it's really too short and choppy (and surfacey) to have much impact beyond that. Mary Astor bears an odd resemblance to Miss Jane Hathaway throughout, although of course you realize from the start that this time she will be getting Jethro...er, Edward G. The finale makes for a snazzy winking jest, and is nicely subversive as well. I certainly hope those goobers learned their lesson: don't try to make a monkey out of Rico.
