Pirates take over a lighthouse on a rocky island. They then execute a devious plan to cause ships to run aground, pillaging their wrecks. A lone member of the lighthouse crew survives, and he deperately fights their plot. A shipwrecked maiden that avoids the pirates slaughter soon complicates the situation. (imdb)

THE LIGHT AT THE EDGE OF THE WORLD has a stunning location to work with, and a few bits of lovely photography of wild waves crashing on rocky cliffs; and that's about it. For more than two hours, Kirk Douglas scrabbles about on the rocks, and Yul Brynner looks menacing. It is REALLY poorly directed, and the writing is worse. The picture is also FAR too graphicly brutal to be enjoyable as an adventure. "GP" in its time, it would be an R picture today.

The bad guys are all psychopaths, and it gives the film a very unrealistic feel. It's also very violent, so be prepared to cringe a few times.

Kirk Douglas and Yul Brynner cross swords (not really) in this weird pirate-themed movie. Kirk Douglas is the lightkeeper and has to defend himself from the horde of pirates invading his island. Not a lot of action in this movie, and lots of violence - but it's really low-budget stuff. Can be fun, but most definitely not for everyone.
