The Life Ahead

Standard coming of age/generational clash material elevated to something special as a showcase for Loren's Rosa, commanding a touching vulnerability that this usually flinty and earthy screen presence hasn't shown before. If Rosa's overtly tragic backstory dealing with the Holocaust is a little heavy handed, and the final request that Rosa makes to Momo is not convincing or believable as presented, this is still a low-key charmer, worth extra points for Loren's performance.

Wonderful performances for both Sophia Lauren and this little boy. A great vehicule to end and begin a career. Slow film though. Not for the average movie audience.

Maybe a little too sentimental at the end, but the complementary roles of a late-era Sophia Loren and Ibrahima Gueye in an unusually good child acting role do make the best of the material.

Apparently the same novel has been done before, but since I haven't seen the other movie, I don't really care. This one was good though.

Sophia Loren, ilerleyen yaşına rağmen çok iyi. Genç oğlan, asi çocuğu abartısız oynamış. Ama ortalarda tempo düşüyor. Seyirci filmden uzaklaşıyor. Filmin sonunda, çocuğumuz üzülüyor. Sürprizi yok. Kıçında donu yok giymeye, tekerlekli sandalyeyle yapmaya.
