I'm a nerd of simple pleasures. Give me in-jokes the youngsters won't get, give me Will Arnett doing his snarky thing for 90+ minutes, give me an endless series of spot-on Batman references, give me a few grams of a good Sativa and hoot dang if this didn't become a Jolly Good Time that was every bit as enjoyable on a next day rewatch.

The LEGO Batman serves up as a fun family-ride and boasts a good sense of humor a really well-done animation, like the first theatrical LEGO film. Full of references as well and a decent story on family. If you like The LEGO Movie and Batman, this is up your alley. "SERENDIPITY!?"

They had a lot to live up to after the excellent The Lego Movie and they managed not to disappoint. Good fun throughout only complaint is I can't believe they didn't reference any of the older iterations of the Batman character. Seems like a missed opportunity to me.

It's all rapid-fire dialogue, cultural references, and self-deprecation that make this as fun of a ride as it is. However, what I found most invigorating as a viewer was how this film analyzes Batman's tragic past in the most unfetishized and human way yet? Honestly, the bluntness and humor with which the writers approach Batman's misplaced anger, repression, and fears of intimacy were so laconic/scaled-down that they felt less grandiose, and thereby more accessible, than they ever have before.

The LEGO Batman Movie is one of the best Batman movies ever, which is pretty incredible given the history of the character. It's hilarious for almost its entire running time, it's action-packed from start to finish, it humanizes Batman and understands him as a character better than almost any other movie - it's one of the first times I remember caring about Batman - and it's beautifully animated, creative, and full of depth, insight, and detail. What an enjoyable movie.

Crammed from start to end with as many gags, skits and jokes as absolutely possible and relentlessly loud. It is without doubt not as smart or meta as 2014's 'The Lego Movie', but I found it funnier and and somehow an altogether more satisfying experience. Gets a slight bonus for also being my son's first trip to the cinema.

Back when I saw the first trailer something like 8000 years ago, I said that this would be the greatest Batman movie ever. After having seen it, I stand by this statement. Because this movie gets Batman and his universe in a way that neither Nolan nor Burton did (not even gonna mention anyone else). And it's funny.

A fast-moving, busy and fun superhero tale which feels very different to the first Lego movie, but retains a lot of the charm. As a Batman film it works, paying some respectful homage to the character, but not at the expense of humour. The voice work and animation are damn good, and if it occasionally crams in a bit much (for example, the zillions of character cameos), it moves on so quickly you won't notice. And it's funny. I liked it. The kids liked it. Recommended.

Not as good as The Lego Movie overall, but better-looking and far funnier. Loved the way it made use of the Lego universe outside of the Batman stuff, and all the voice acting is close to perfect - I wish Galifanakis had gone a bit more manic but that's it. The self-aware jazz does a very good job at raising knowing laughs without getting smug or irritating.

I've always felt that Batman was a goofy sort of character that was perfectly captured by Adam West, and thus I always hated the obnoxiously super serious and gritty Dark Knight version that was foisted upon the world by Frank Miller. Parts of this were the savage piss-take of the lame version of Batman I wanted it to be, and it had a handful of good jokes, but the story was pretty weak and the songs were godawful.

Amazing - amazingly silly, amazingly thoughtful, amazingly full of characterization and colorful explosions. Not only does it explore the character of Batman and his flaws more faithfully and thoroughly than *any* of the live-action movies, but it also explores toxic masculinity through him. All of the characters get good development, and anything that makes me actually care about the Joker should get an Oscar. Plus, it's just fun, indulgent in a way few movies let themselves be. Amazing.

Relies so heavily on Gatling gun-levels of pop cultural references (about two a second, from my estimation) and an energy level akin to snorting a whole bag of Pixie sticks and eating a Unicorn raw, I do wonder how it will hold up on repeat viewings. But initially, it's kinda shocking to recognize that this may be the only "Batman" film to get the characters within the Bat-Universe correct.

To be honest I went into this movie unsure how much I would like it. I didn't really like Batman from The Lego Movie that much. So a whole movie focused around that Batman made me a little worried. However, I think I liked this movie better than The Lego Movie. The movie kind of addresses the whole Batman is a jerk thing and is filled with Batman related humor. It's maybe a bit too wacky for some and the ending is a bit lacking, but it is a fun trip and any Batman fan can appreciate it.

Doesn't touch The Lego Movie, but few films could ever hope to. Nonetheless, already in February we have one of the best films of the year. Hilarious for adults, hyperactive for kids, brimming with references for fans; everything is awesome. This Lego franchise (because it is a franchise now) is 2 for 2, and here's the best endorsement for it I can think of: before this was the trailer for The Lego Ninjago Movie. I don't know anything about Ninjago, but I'm genuinely looking forward to it.

The most telling criticism is its notably inferior to 'The Lego Movie' in just about every department, with even Batman himself arguably failing to be as funny as he was there. That said TLM set an incredibly high standard so falling short does not mean Lego Batman is a disappointment. On the contrary it's a delightfully entertaining action comedy romp with so many jokes and DCU references being fired at the viewer it's impossible to catch them all first time around. A must for Batman fans!

Surprisingly it did a pretty good job of examining and making fun of the Batman mythos, specifically at the beginning where it was at its most clever. It loses it a little bit as it goes on, but there are still some really good jokes scattered throughout, even if it tries too hard, along with some heart at the end. Great animation, of course, and the way its characters is pretty impressive. This is an entertaining Batman but the entire rogues gallery is handled with finesse.

"The Lego Batman Movie" is funny, exciting, and a sheer delight of the highest order, that serves as both a loving send-up to everything that the Dark Knight embodies, or has ever embodied during his 78 year long career as Gotham's protector, and a hilarious farce that acknowledges just how silly The Caped Crusader can truly be.

So much so that it almost loses some of its potency (in part because it ends up repeating some of the same jokes out of sheer necessity). Another amazing lego movie. This one doesn't have as emotionally touching of a story as the first lego movie, but it's even funnier. Which in my opinion makes up for most of it. The Lego Batman Movie strikes the perfect balance of the usual Lego humour with the varied back catalogue of Batman source material. This is a frantically enjoyable children's film with constant jokes and references for both new and lifelong Batman fans to appreciate. The Lego Movie was a pleasant and unexpected surprise for everybody and this spin off inevitably doesn't feel quite as refreshing. But this film does cement the Lego movie franchise as a property with a huge future ahead of it.

The majority of the film feels like the final 30 minutes of a Marvel movie; so much is going on the screen that it is a dizzying and confusing affair. Kind of tiresome, but the way it goes for the ~soul~ of Batman really turns this one of his finest versions. He raps, beatbox, plays guitar, watches romcoms, is selfish as hell. Its self-conscious, ironic and colossally pop referential (Sauron and Voldemort against Gotham!) makes the first 20 minutes seem great -- he hates himself and refuses to connect even by admitting he hates Joker. But then when it comes to adventure, it's just a bunch of colorful stuff and BRICK TRICKS climaxing.

All good comedies feature moments of reference humour and a subtle throwaway joke or two. They are often hit-or-miss, but they are there for those who will appreciate them. This movie is just a giant vehicle for them: an overlong (twenty minutes would have been too long), jumbled mess of cheap jokes that would have had a 50% chance of warranting a laugh if distributed one-per-film into a thousand different better films. All the consumerist satire of the first one takes a back-seat (thankfully, they didn't need to continue with it) and instead just present the best Batman movie in quite a few years through this unique design, which looks consummately glorious throughout. The film attempts a high joke count and manages to hit more than miss (with a pretty satisfyingly hilarious climax), and there's some particularly funny moments with Batman on his own, much needed in this high-level film.

Perhaps surprisingly, this is the best Batman film after the Dark Knight. It lacks some of the heart and soul (and anti-consumerism!) of the Lego Movie but my god is it fun. If the Dark Knight represents the best of Batman Mythos when it's at it's darkest and grittiest than Lego Batman represents the best of Batman at it's funnest and most colourful, surpassing even the delightfully campy 1960s Batman film with Adam West.

Probably totally unfair to compare this to "The Lego Movie", but also probably impossible not to. This Batman character, even in the first movie, is based very strongly in "trying just a little too hard" humour, and while I know that's the point, I can't really say that that translated well to an entire feature. Middle of the road spin off. Lego was already pushing it to put out a video game series, then they made a movie (a good one too), but a spin-off of a movie based on a kids toy? That's like a spin-off of real steel or battleship. I didn't hate this movie, it was fairly entertaining, but also fairly empty. It's amazing the detail they go into for the Legos, you can see little scuff marks, or edges that aren't completely square. Why have Fiennes as a voice and not have him play Voldemort, really?

I get that this is a kids film and a spoof on the many interpretations of Batman, but my god they made him borderline unbearably annoying. It worked fine when he was a side character, but in my opinion it didn't translate well to giving him his own movie. The final act was a bit boring and typical superhero film style, which means too much going on on screen, without any impact, making it a bit tedious. The cameos from other franchises also didn't really hit the mark I felt, but it was nice seeing most of the Batman villains actually have a place in this. If this was just a bit shorter, or had a more original ending, it probably would have been a more satisfying experience.

It's like someone got Will Arnett into a studio and had him react to a Batman movie in real time. It ends up being so casual in its delivery that it surpasses any supposed standards of formality. They combined the drama of the Batman movies with the synthy fun of the Lego Movie and it works. It doesn't go without a certain amount of predictability, but Will Arnett might just be my favorite Batman at this point.

It's pretty funny and enjoyable, but not as good as the first Lego movie. Batman is a cool dude.

It's a well-disguised grown-up movie marketed as a kids movie. It has numerous nods to several niche franchises and cultural phenomenon. It's jack FULL of easter eggs. Also, it tackles some more adult thematics such as commitment issues, illusions of grandeur and legal ethics. But actually, what I was more surprised and interested by was the handling of the relationship between Batman and Joker which is a pretty pivotal plotline of the movie.

Spotty Lego spin-off starts out very well, with Arnett again in terrific form, and Cera an enjoyable Robin. Unfortunately the storytelling becomes very laboured as the film progresses (before destructing completely), leaving a string of gags in its wake. Galifianakis' love-lorn take on the Joker unfortunately proves to be a one-joke idea which never really develops in an interesting way. Genuinely clever sight gags and in-jokes go a long way towards saving it.

Some good jokes but most are misses. Had a really forced morale. I did like some of the cameos and references. My wife loved it and that's good enough for me. This would've worked better as a short film. Too long and it got old fast.
