The Legend of Boggy Creek

1972
Drama, Suspense/Thriller
1h 27m
A documentary-style drama which questions the existence of a monster in an Arkansas swamp. It is really more of a glimpse at lower-class swamp culture from the seventies, though, than a monster flick. (imdb)

After you realize that there isn't actually a Bigfoot this takes on a VERY tedious nature, slogging through several reenactments that don't create any suspense. I realized there was no Bigfoot when I was seven so... The theme songs were spectacular though.

One day I'm gonna see a decent Bigfoot horror movie. However sadly the search continues, as this 70's docudrama about the Arkansas "Fouke Monster" wasn't the low-budget Bigfoot-"The Blair Witch Project"(1999) I hoped it might be. Instead it's a wonderful home-movie like timecapsule of rural 1970's Arkansas wildlife, people, culture, and the infamous local Bigfoot like creature. Although not really that entertaining, you come for the Bigfoot, but stay for the charming original folk songs.

Has a decent story but the bad acting and poor pacing really hurt this film and kept my rating low. At times this felt like it was a '60s Disney live action nature film complete with dull voice over. I wish someone talented would remake this as it has a lot of potential.

I'm giving this movie a 0 not because of quality, but because it's the closest score to an "N/A" I can give. They don't make 'em like this anymore, and uh, maybe that's a good thing. If you've ever wanted to listen to a jaunty 70's fart-country tune set to the lumberings of an ape-monster, you'll find plenty of that here, but maybe you should just get help.

Ineffective as a horror film as it's so damn standard, but there's definitely a sense of effort amongst this whole work -- the way it tells it's story seems relatively intriguing, but if it were better, it would've been so much better. I liked the poster a lot more, and I think it's creepier.

Reenacting a multitude of accounts of sighting of a Bigfoot-like creature. Pretty eerie.

I really liked the fact that the movie took a different, mockumentary style approach to telling us the story of the monster. What drags it down is the too slow approach and the strange songs accompanied with nature montages. Once the actual creepy parts start, it grows a lot more effective. I think my biggest issue with the later part is that women just scream. A lot. All the time. Screaming. Why. Please stop. Worth a watch for the intrigue if you're into monster movies.

Simple and entertaining. Easy to see why this would be a big hit in rural 1970s Arkansas/Texas. I feel I should mention the "bad acting" was due to casting people who had actually claimed to have seen the creature, adding a genuine touch to the film that is worth more than good acting would have been in this case

The Legend of Boggy Creek, a family-friendly mockumentary detailing the shuffling whereabouts of a Bigfoot-like creature in Arkansas, is as ludicrous and uneventful as it sounds.

Good swamp scenery and wilderness photography. Including the dramatic reenactments and original songs were a mistake, but then again the movie would've been no fun without them.

just watch the trailer - it has the monster's majestically peerless "howl", which was the only memorable thing about the film. And serious buddy saying the title at the end of the trailer.
