The Legend of 1900

You'd think a 90-page novel couldn't be turned into a 3-hour movie. You'd be wrong.

A ridiculous film. Discontent with being simply a real-life Disney-animated Citizen Edward Pianohands - complete with a cherub princess, a supernaturally gifted and kind orphan and a ludicrous story - it attempts to provide an understanding of being special. Nevertheless, everyone ignores that 1900 is a stow-away second-coming completely in charge of his own reality and try instead to force him ashore, rather than treating us to a study of his God-like, location bound existence. Terrible script.

Lavish, good-looking but curious fable that suggests significance without ever revealing it.

"An epic story of a man who could do anything...except be ordinary." Yeah, this movie is pretty much the definition of average.

(Original Cut) Well shot and scored, with a good performance from Roth. Some of the dialogue is weak, and some of the performances of the smaller characters stick out poorly. The length is also a bit long, but the theatrical cut seems a bit excessive in how much it apparently cuts. If there were a more refined version in between the two cuts I’d probably bump up the score a bit.

This might be the most unique/best use of music in a movie I've ever seen. Even if it's, on principal, the most obvious. Thanks, Morricone!

Tis true, there isn't a lot of substance I suppose but it's a heartwarming movie, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Always a pleasure to see Tim Roth.

If the film leaned more on the comedic possibilities of the story it could be good fun (and shorter), but instead it turns what should be a playfully absurd premise into strangely somber melodrama that drags because of its structure and length. There are some fun times in there, but not as many as there should be.

I wish I would have magic words that could sum up the legend. I wish I would have the gift to tell what it was and not to be so vague about it. Its beauty is worth your time.

I wouldn't say this film is legendary but I did love hearing the lore of 1900. His actual full name in the movie is Danny Boodmann T.D. Lemon Nineteen Hundred. He was a baby found on a boat named the Virginian. Tim Roth plays this musical prodigy really well and you'll come to love him and adore the music he plays. Two scenes stuck out to me as being amazing;...

Charming movie that swept through my brain and left me melancholy.

Well, I felt like this movie was trying to capture the same kind of spirit as Cinema Paradiso... Maybe a little too hard.

Wishy-washy all the way, but there's a nugget of a masterpiece in here that I want to exploit one day.

A wonderful story of a genie in a bottle, which does not want to come out to don your wishes. He wants you to come to his world so that you can enjoy his talents but not take it away with you. We all live in a ship in a way, with our comfort zones; maybe the ladders are not that visible but they are there. You can not yank a friend from his ship; but by trying at least you can show the rest of the world, what has gone on inside; and maybe that is more than enough.

Very good-looking movie, but the story is more fantastical than it, in the end, can support.

A slightly pretentious arthouse melodrama. It's mostly due to the source material - Baricco's book, which is just a bit too nonsensical for my taste.

Excelent soundtrack by Ennio Morricone, nice story and great pefrormance by Tim Rot.

Pretty, but lacking substance. maybe it requires repeated watches, but it seemed a bit hollow. So far the tale seems to be, 'i can't get of boat, woe is me, oh well, i had a good run, for i have a wild imaginatioooon. piano, piano, piano, better than jellyroll morton?'

A charming fantasy with both lead roles done quite well. The expertly composed music and well crafted, heart warming story make this a movie not to be missed, too bad so many people did though.

I was totally stunned by this movie the first time I saw. I'm amazed so few people saw it.

Frigging nobody saw this in its theatrical run except me. I think it's an engaging and funny story about the power of music
