It's hard to be fair to this film. On the one hand it's a very engaging story and quite fast paced for a silent. It also has a certain progressive core to it that's refreshing. On the other hand there are an awful lot of cringeworthy stereotypes. The good certainly wins out, but the blemishes are hard to ignore.

Progressive for its time, but today the stereotypical portrayal of Native Americans (portrayed by white actors, of course) feels really silly. The story also feels pretty disjointed. There's certain strange appeal to it, though, and the fight scenes are pretty well done.

Very mixed on this.. offensively stupid and stereotypical at times, but it is great film-making from a visual standpoint. Too many closeups of actors with faces that don't say much.
