Despite some pretty bad acting, The Last Mimzy is a surprisingly enjoyable family film that inadvertently manages to feel like it was made in the late 80's/early 90's. The film is book-ended by some of the worst exposition I've ever seen, and is filled with pseudo-science, government agencies, and pro-humanity mumbo-jumbo. But it is in spite of this that the film works, in part due to its innocence and wholesomeness. The Howard Shore score borrows from LotR, and is a bit much at times.

There are good intentions and the film want to pass a good message, but is not enough to captivate me.

So it's up to wise adults to direct young passions in the right direction. And that's a challenge--especially when it comes to going to the movies. Both Eastern mysticism (as represented by Larry and Naomi) and atheistic naturalism (as represented by the FBI scientists) are dangerous philosophies. They're both concepts too big for most children to fully grasp, but ones that permeate our pluralistic society. So the challenge is to find age-appropriate ways to instill truth and weed out error.

"As the film builds to its nail-biting conclusion, the children will have connected with the War on Terror and foreign philosophical belief systems in the interest of mankind's salvation." - Ed Gonzalez

If more children were as adorable as Emma, I'd hate children less.

You know the best thing about this movie? The trailers for other films at the start. Complete waste of time. The hour and a half feels like 4, and that poster has more excitment in it that the actual film. I was drawn in by the TV spots, but they contain all the good stuff.
And the ending is balls.

Not bad, not the best. Worth watching once or twice. Cute, too fast-paced... With a big plot such as this, depth would have made it so much more likeable.

A childish "believe in it, really" story for scifi characters. Kids in leading role. Rainn Wilson is as good as he used to be.

well it's a kid's movie that tries to be like "The Day After Tomorrow" with a Hello Kitty-esque sort of Sci-fi vibe. It's kinda pretentious, though.

This is a lovely little movie. I had heard as such, but was still pleasantly surprised. That little girl is really impressive, and, of course, adorable. I liked the interaction between the kids quite a bit. Of course, I love Rainn Wilson. It's a...(read more) shame this didn't do better. I'm really glad I took the time to watch it. You should too. (Also, it's very pretty...)

Very cutesy and innocent... usually not my type of film, but this one had different qualities like the acting and the sophisticated plot (for a family film at least)that led to me eventually liking it a lot. If you have amnesia and forgot that there was a film put out 20 years or so ago called E.T., you'll probably want to see this one.
