A small southern town has just been rocked by a tragedy: a young woman has been violently raped. The white town fathers immediately declare that the attacker had to be black, and place the blame on Garth, a young black man. Assuming that the men in white sheets aren't intent on holding a fair and impartial trial, Garth takes to the woods as the Klansmen lynching party hunts him down. (imdb)

Morally kind of ambiguous...the Klan is obviously a bunch of hypocritical and psychotic yahoos, but Marvin is not above siding with them if it will keep people from being killed, and OJ Simpson plays a black vigilante who is systematically murdering Klan members. Well acted but I'm not sure it had much of a point, other than "the KKK is bad"

Quite a curiosity. It's basically an exploitation film about racial tensions in a small town U.S.A. It portrays the good ole boys and Klan as a bunch of idiots who are constantly drunk and looking for trouble, and doesn't shy away from displaying some T&A. O.J Simpson is a black vigilante who's going after men who killed his friend. It's directed by Terence Young who did the first Bond movies, and contains an eclectic cast of Marvin, Burton, Mitchell etc. and a script co-written by Sam Fuller.

Violence, revenge, forest fires, racial tensions and death. Entertaining.

Murky, unfocused drama appears to tell a valid (and interesting) story about moral pacifism in the service of community harmony, so it's tempting to give it a pass as having its heart in the right place - until it takes its regular left turns into graphic, exploitative scenes of rape and violence (as well as racial degradation). An ailing Burton contributes to what may be the saddest fight scene ever put to film - his karate style subjugation of Mitchell, which is howlingly absurd as presented!

Poorly directed and edited. Considering the calibre of the leading actors (personal problems aside) this was embarrassingly poor.

"The Klansman" is about a serious subject, made with serious actors, but they are performing a weak script in a style that makes you feel like all the characters are psychopaths.
